Title: The Trombone
Specific Purpose: After hearing my speech, the audience will have a basic understanding of the history of the trombone, types of trombones, how to put it together, and how to play it.
Thesis: The trombone is a historical instrument, modified and used in many genres of music.
Introduction:
Many people misunderstand the beauty of music, and more importantly, the power of it. In the words of Plato, “Music gives a soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination and life to everything.” (AleAle). The trombone initially began as ‘the sackbutt’ but later came to be called the trombone when it first started being introduced into modern music around the 1800’s (Monks).
Used as accompaniment to vocals, the trombone was utilized by a few composers such as Christoph Willibald Gluck, François Joseph Gossec, and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.
When jazz became popular in the end of the 19th, the trombone was incorporated, and made famous by a man named Tommy Dorsey, if not for him, the trombone would not be near as famous as it is now (Monks).
