As the story progress the sunlight avoids Hester because she starts to keep secrets, Pearl tells her, “ Mother, the sunshine does not love you. it runs away and hides itself,” (Hawthorne, 144). Pearl, on the other hand, is always in the sunlight because she is the truth. Dimmesdale was also keeping secrets, but the night he stood hand and hand with Pearl and Hester, none of them was keeping a secret so the meteor’s, “crimson light,” (Hawthorne, 122) shined upon them. While Hester and Dimmesdale are talking in the wood and Hester tells Dimmesdale who Chillingworth really is, both of them speak their mind to each other and had guilt-free happiness, and “ All at once, as with a sudden smile of heaven, forth burst the sunshine, pouring a very flood into the obscure forest,” (Hawthorne, 159). At the end of the novel, the sunlight shines one more time. Dimmesdale climbs the scaffold once more with Hester and Pearl , but this time in front of the whole village, and confesses his sin. Just before he dies the sunlight shine on them.
