Overall, I think Dan should try to move Kyle to the Customer Service side of the business, since he is a nice person, or move him to different departments to give him a chance to find his niche in the company. If that does not solve the issues then I think Dan should terminate Kyle from the company.
2. Answer the questions to the following scenario. a. At what stage of the Tuckman’s Five-Stage Model would you say this group is operating? Why?
Over all I think they are at the fourth stage, performing. They do have bumps along the way that could lead you to believe that they are in a different stage, but no group will ever be perfect when people have different personalities. Performing is the only stage that they actually …show more content…
match all of the description: clear vision and purpose, focuses on goal achievement, and delegation.
I identify the clear vision and purpose when they decide, through a common interest, to work on animal overpopulation for their service-learning project. They researched the problem and had a clear idea of how they wanted to help this purpose.
They were also excited to share all they had accomplished with working on this issue. They all had an interest in the topic so that gave them extra motivation to get work done and focus on the goal achievement. The soon they can achieve the goal, the sooner they will be able to put their plan into action.
Towards the end of the scenario you see that delegation that has implemented in the group.
For example, Lam stated, “Ryan, did you bring the visual aids we all need?” I draw the conclusion he Lam is leader of the group. The only delegation that was brought up in the scenario is Lam to Ryan, I am sure there had to have been more, but none were stated in the paragraph.
b. What categories of non-verbal communication does this group exhibit?
The non-verbal communication that is most obvious to me is Kinesics. Some example of the kinesics non-verbal communication is when Tamika slammed her book down and Kelli throwing her hands in the air, as well as picking up her things to leave. Another non-verbal communication that I discovered was Paralanguage. For example, Kelli in frustration declared, Ryan defended, and Kelli shot back in an angry tone.
c. Would you describe Tyler’s behavior as social loafing? Why or why not?
Yes, I would consider it social loafing. I understand he family is sick and he has other things to do, but life and the world does not stop just be Tyler has an issues. It is good for him to learn this while he is in school, because in the work for if you do not show up and not have the decency to text or call someone on why you are late or not coming in, you will be fired. It is inexcusable; nothing should stop you from showing up or messaging on why you will be late, unless you are
dead.
d. Is there a leader in this group? If so, who is the leader and how did you identify him or her?
I think Lam takes on the role as the leader. I came to this conclusion at the end of the scenario when everyone was yelling about how Tyler was not there. Lam stood up and calmed everyone down to get them back on course. It is the leader who stands out from the crowd to get items in order. He could have started bashing Tyler and make things worse, but he calmed down the girls, fixed an issue, and made the executive decision to finish the presentation.
