Introduction:
The report includes a strategic analysis of Tullow Oil PLC, which is a UK based oil and gas exploration company operating in over 25 countries across the globe. The analysis of the strategy followed by Tullow oil would facilitate the use of most strategy analysing tools and also this would enabled the writers to identify the importance which the corporate strategy of the company played in getting to its current position.
The company was founded by Aidan Heavey in 1985 and the company was initiated in Ireland. The major operations of the company take place in Africa and the Atlantic margins, Ghana, Uganda, Kenya and French Guiana. Tullow’s vision is to be "the leading global independent exploration and production Company with a clear consistent exploration-led growth strategy". Tullow focuses on building a business that is, competitive to an unrivalled position. Tullow oil is able to achieve this through a "balanced yet diversified portfolio of high-impact exploration on selective developments which leads to successful production". Tullow is able to finance its business developments through the cash generated from oil production and also through the yields of the equity investment which can be identified as a major component of the income. Success will be long-term sustainable value based on growth for Tullow while delivering significant returns to shareholders and catering prosperity to all stakeholders".
Tullow oil acquired its first license in 1986 and began operations as a licensed upstream sector company in the oil and gas industry. One year later Tullow oil generated its first revenue, and the company registered in the London and Irish stock exchanges. The company was able to expand its business by entering into onshore drilling operations expanding into many parts of Europe.
By the 1990s Tullow obtained the licenses in Pakistan which laid down the foundation for their entry into the South Asian portfolio for operations. Tullow
