Teenage Obesity
The problem of childhood obesity in the United States has grown considerably in recent years. Do you know, or have known someone who has become or fought obesity? If you do then your aware of the effects of letting this happen, or if you don’t do anything about it. Some effects are health issues, and also Excess weight at young ages has been linked to higher and earlier death rates in adulthood. One of the most riveting statements regarding the severity of the childhood obesity epidemic came from former Surgeon General Richard Carmona, who characterized the threat as follows:

“Because of the increasing rates of obesity, unhealthy eating habits and physical inactivity, we may see the first generation that will be less healthy and have a shorter life expectancy than their parents."
Between 16 and 33 percent of children and adolescents are obese. The percentage of overweight children(ages 10-17) in Missouri is 28.4% alone. Also today, about one in three American kids and teens is overweight or obese, nearly triple the rate in 1963.

The growing issue of childhood obesity can be slowed, if society focuses on the causes. There are many components that play into childhood obesity, some being more crucial than others. The most important being the parents supervising the children at home in both food choices and exercising regularly. If parents enforce a healthier lifestyle at home then many obesity problems could be avoided. What children learn at home about eating healthy, exercising and making the right nutritional choices, will eventually spill over into other aspects of their life. This will have the biggest influence on the choices kids make when selecting foods to consume at school and fast-food restaurants and choosing to be active.
The lack of physical activities is one of the causes of a child’s obesity. The world allows children nowadays to become inactive. For example, the increasing number of vehicles in the world has decreased the number of physical activities among children. What happened to riding your bike, or walking to school? Kids are either drive themselves, or are picked up.
Focusing on these causes may, over time, decrease childhood obesity and lead to a healthier society as a whole.
Some effects of this are among children today, obesity is causing a broad range of health problems that previously weren’t seen until adulthood. Such as high blood pressure, type 2 diabetes, elevated blood cholesterol levels, several types of cancer, and stroke. There are also phycological effects, they include low self-esteem, negative body images, anxiety, and depression. Obesity frequently becomes a lifelong issue.

A list of ideas to help control the rising obesity in America are;
-Exercise is more useful to burn fat as it speeds up metabolism. Exercise in any form like walking , swimming, cycling, playing football ,workout with machines or yoga just for 30-35 minutes per day will not only helpful to control weight but also reduces risk of serious cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, arthritis etc.

-Diet Some people go on dieting or very strict diet regime to control obesity but that is not safe solution because after some days the person get bored and don't want to be on control regime . Maintain regular meal times and have balanced meals. Uncontrolled eating habits also contribute to weight gain.

-Include plenty of vegetables, fruits, and whole grain products in daily diet.

-Drink lots of water Whenever hungry in between main meal prefer to have fruits especially juicy fruits or fruit juice preferably lemon, orange, carrot etc. Green salad is also healthier and makes filling of fullness to stomach.

-Avoid or minimize sugar intake, avoid sweets, chocolates, cakes as all these leads to extra calorie to body. In spite of sugar low calorie sweetener can be used. Honey can be used in juice or water which will help in speed up metabolism. Avoid high fat milk products like cheese and butter.

-Always prefer to have white meat like fish, instead of red meat as they are low in fat content. Some herbs available at home kitchen are also useful in controlling weights like fennel, fenugreek, mint, black pepper, ginger. These herbs help in digestion as well as raising metabolism.

-Last but not least always try to be happy, be strong mentally and continue positive efforts which will give positive result and good health.

Hopefully after this essay you are more aware of the affects of obesity. Many people do not realize how damaging obesity can be to the body and for your overall health. Obesity is something that is increasingly on the rise today and will continue to rise unless we do something about it like informing people of how bad it really is and encouraging people to live a health-enhancing lifestyle. A healthy diet and exercising two to three times a week is key to not becoming obese. Let's change the trend of obesity by living healthy lives and building towards a healthy America.

    Childhood obesity is a huge health problem in United States that affects about 12.5 million children and teens in this country alone. Since 1960 scientist have been monitoring obesity problem in United States and between 1980’s and 1990’s they have seen a drastic increase in childhood obesity from about 5% to sky high 15% which is a concerning number for young people. There are many different reasons why young people develop obesity in this country. The major reason why children become overweight is a bad food diet, eating fast food and not exercising enough throughout the day. Today’s lifestyle and technology allows people to buy food quickly at local fast food places, it is quick, convenient and cheap. Most people do not have time to come home after all day at work and cook a fresh and healthy dinner for the family. It is easier to stop at “Kentucky Fried Chicken” for example and buy dinner for entire family for under $25 which is almost impossible to do at home. Access for children to fast food places is easier than ever before, and most beverages that young people drink contain High Fructose Corn Syrup that replaced sugar in the 1970’s but causes young people to gain weight as fast as sugar does. Biggest problem in childhood obesity is definitely the food choices that we make for us and our children but also we cannot forget about the lack of exercise, most people do not get enough exercise so they stay healthy and become over weight. Also school nutrition’s should be friendlier to healthy diets and fruits instead of vending machines. Childhood obesity is a growing problem in America and it seems that it is not going away but in fact it might get bigger in near future if we do not do anything about it.
