Melba Beals was one of the first nine students that integrated Central High School in Little Rock, Arkansas. While she integrated Central High School, the first school that was every integrated, other events occurred. President Eisenhower sent federal troops to make sure that the students safely walked to school, to thwart the efforts of the governor. Through these events, obstacles arose. Some people “looked totally horrified while others raised their fists to us (Beals).” But those weren’t the only obstacles. Other were angry segregationist mobs or the National Guard. Even though there were obstacles and difficulties, Melba Beals learned from these moments. Melba Beals was “Proud that I lived in a country that would go this far to bring justice to a Little Rock girl like me.” Throughout these events, Melba Beals impacted the world. Jackie Robinson was the first black player to play in Major League Baseball. Along with this event, other events surrounded it. For example, Jackie played in Minor League Baseball until Mr. Rickey was waiting for a chance to bring blacks into the big leagues, on the Brooklyn Dodgers. In this experience, Robinson faced many challenges. For example, Robinson said there was, “Hate mail… threats against me and my family and even out-and-out attempts at physical harm to me.” But Robinson also faced rejection and he was “forced to live with snubs, rebuffs, and rejections.” Even though these experiences were harsh, Jackie Robinson developed from them. Robinson learned that he couldn’t have done it without Mr. Rickey or his wife, Rachel Robinson. Finally, Robinson impacted the world in many ways. Robinson helped the black community believe in themselves and taught people to be more acceptive of black players in professional sports. Overall, Jackie Robinson had a turning point in his life through obstacles and heart-warming
