The cost to TV Listings for an additional 20,000 issue is $2,880. Based on our analysis, the variable cost that is affected on the additional issues are paper, binding and delivery cost. The only variable cost that is not affected in the addition is the plate production because whether or not they need any additional issue, plates will still have to produce black and white and colored pages. The remainder of the costs in editorial, administration, composing computer and national program data base are fixed because no matter how much output they produce, the cost will not change. The lowest price per extra copy TV Listings can offer without reducing profit is 0.14 cents. We were able to determine this by finding the marginal cost per copy.

The variable cost that were affected in their new 3-year contract are channel and paper cost because the only changes were the increase of pages in the program book, two local and sixteen national channels. Since the copies of 84,000 remain the same from the previous contract, binding and delivery cost would not change.

The current U.S. broadcast and cable television industry, growing at an average annual rate of 6% with a small number of large companies in the market, is in the mature stage of the industry life cycle. Although the number of Pay TV subscription has declined over the past five years, most Pay TV providers managed to achieve modest rates of revenue growth. At the same time, with the proliferation of online streaming, the number of programs in the market is on the rise as the number of channels to broadcast them has grown significantly. In addition, the rapid growth of internet has allowed TV producers to make content available on-demand, presenting new…

Add-on fees can quickly turn a cheap bundle into a not-so-hot deal. For example, Time Warner Cable recently advertised digital cable TV with 200-plus channels (HD included) plus speedy 10-megabit-per-second broadband Internet for $75 a month, with free installation. What the ad didn't say, however, was that recording in HD with an HD DVR would cost an additional $18 a month, and a wireless router (if you didn't already have one) would cost an extra $5 per month. Tack on a few more dollars a month in fees and that $75 deal could balloon to $100 a month.…

Though one wouldn’t think it, Germany wasn’t the only country guilty of having targeted an entire race of people. Though definitely not as extreme as Germany’s actions, the US was also guilty of this act, having targeted the Japanese American people after Japan had bombed Pearl Harbor. Arresting potential ‘spies,’ forcing people to move, and putting them all in camps were the main things the US had done to the Japanese people. In the book When the Emperor Was Divine written by Julie Otsuka, this event is shown through the eyes of the Japanese people as they go through this. Though many themes are most likely prevalent in the story, the one that sticks out the most is that an entire races fate should not be determined by one event.…

Rivalry Among Existing Firms. In terms of the video rental industry, Netflix now has very few competitors. Blockbuster was the main one, but has since lost steam. Outside of DVD rentals however, the competition is much more intense. Netflix directly competes with cable companies like Charter, On-Demand channels, and even Tivo. Online streaming companies such as Hulu are also major competitors.…
