The hegemonic masculine script is the cultural actions and behaviors that are traditionally paired with power and dominance. These actions and behaviors are the recognized ideal of such peoples. Participating in the hegemonic script perfectly is impossible, however, it is still used as a measuring stick to determine masculinity. Blue Mountain State is a fictional t.v show that revolves around a football team for Blue Mountain State University. The team itself is full of traditional masculinity scripts of men who are sexually desirable according to hegemonic ideals. Most specifically they constantly reassert their sexual dominance. In season 1 episode 2, “Promise Ring”, the reassertion of sexual dominance is heavily prevalent. One of the main characters Thad visits a strip club with the football team and greets each stripper by name in front of his teammates. Each stripper returns niceties and flirtatious glances. The scene insinuates that he has had sexual relations with each woman and that they admire him. In contrast, Thad’s foil is Craig. Craig is in a serious relationship and his girlfriend. His girlfriend gives him a promise ring to wear for the weekend. His teammates make fun of him all weekend long and bring him to a strip club, mercilessly making fun of him while he doesn’t participate in the sexual deviances everyone is participating in.
