Naturally, I try to keep an open mind when watching television because not all things should be perceived as factual. I fall into the category of negotiated decoding’s, where I am able to accept and reject certain meanings based on my own personal experiences and beliefs. For instance, the surface meaning of the outfit and the stripper in this episode played off of stereotypes created from our society. However, we must look deeper to find that the initial stereotypes in this case are incorrect and we should not be too quick to judge. I can accept that meaning because that is what I personally believe. In the end of the episode, the detective allows the lawyer to walk out of the police station knowing that if he does he will be killed by the outfit. This particular situation I do not agree with and I therefore reject the ultimate justice meaning behind this message. I believe that if the justice system has the ability to convict a person that is guilty then they should do it and not let street justice take over. I feel like I try to keep an open mind about what I watch and what I read, that way I am able to make my own decisions and form my own
