Perhaps one of my new favorite TV show is called, Glee. It’s about a group of rejects in high school joining an afterschool club that sings and attempts to win another championship, which has not been achieved for more than a decade. Glee club is taught by a Spanish teacher named Will Schuester who graduated from the same high school and also won the only Glee club’s national trophy. I personally find the entire series jaw dropping because there’s so much talent packed into one show that many have never heard of before. Not to mention, the satire that’s used throughout the series and each episode can be related to lives we live in as well as lives that we want to live in. Another hit TV show that I really enjoy is South Park. I feel that the show revolves around what’s happening around the world and tries to make it “funny” for its audience and viewers by making it seems serious but on the lighter side of the issue. For example, one that I’ve brought up in class was about how the Japanese were blamed for World War 2, but throughout one of the episodes in South Park, the Japanese kept killing dolphins because someone sent in “top secret information” to the Japanese government that it was the dolphins that who betrayed the Japanese and that’s why they were killing all dolphins. The US and the main characters found that killing dolphins were disturbing so they came up with a plot where they convinced the Japanese that it’s actually chickens and cows that are to be blamed, not dolphins. At the moment, you can see the Japanese has bought into it and started killing chickens and cows with one of the characters throwing a punch-line to end the episode, “…oh so now they’re no different than us!”
But my all time favorite TV show would be Seinfeld. Though it was in its’ prime when I was only four to eight years old, I gave it a chance with the reruns that airs every night on Fox and surprisingly, I laughed at the jokes, I understood and could relate the show to most of the problems they go through even though some problems might be outdated, but I understand because people have changed over the time period from when the show was at its prime and now with the reruns.
One type of show that I despise would be reality TV shows. Not so much American Idol or Dancing with the Stars, but more on shows like Jersey Shore, Real Chance of Love or anyone of those VH1 or MTV shows that deals with dating, love and the daily lives of people getting with other people. I feel like there isn’t any creativity with the shows like that. There’s really no talent going on and these people are treated as celebrities for what basically happens in everyday life for everyone. It doesn’t make any sense to me on why anyone would fall for garbage like that. If a study really came out and showed that people lose brain cells watching shows like that, I wouldn’t be surprised.
