Twimmer-Personal Narrative
Standing at the block, getting ready to dive into the crystal, clear water, I felt ready to compete to win a position on the advanced team. When I was seven, I was a pretty good swimmer but my brother and sister were better than me. My sister had the idea to swim competitively and my brother wanted to also so then I said ok so I just went along with it. It took my dad a long time to find a competitive swim program but then he did it was called RMSC. I was so nervous to go and try out because I was not the best swimmer and my sister and brother were a lot better than me we all made the team. Deciding to try out for the competitive team the next year changed me forever.
The first day I went to to practice I was last in my lane and this was not good because I had meet a friend and he was beating me. This made me upset and forced me to want to work harder because in the locker room I said “I was faster than him.”. After the first week I was right with him. I was catching his time in the pool. “Now I want to be first,” I said. Then after that week I was moving up but so was my friend. He was also working hard to beat me.
Then it came to the first meet. It was great I dropped so much time. Then when I got out of the water I felt like I was on top of the moon. The only bad part of the meet was the my friend was still

It was time to try out for the competitive team. This time I was not nervous although I was determined. The only time I remember talking to greg was before getting into the glass like water i said “are you nervous” he responded saying “not one bit.” That practice all i could hear were the coaches roaring like lions telling us the next step. Then they were reading the list of people who made it “connor hebert, sadie hebert, brandon hebert” i was ecstatic. Then it happened they called my friend “Greg Boil”. I was glad that he got on the team to because he helped me work hard and I was nice to have a friend on the

On the first day of practice he introduced himself as “Jimmy Johnson” our defense line coach. He had a beer belly and glasses and slick wet hair and nappy eye brows and an itchy musty beard. His breath smelled like dog liver. My first impression of him is he just looks weird and mean. We began practice we ran around cones. We went over plays. Where we should line up according to the offense. Coach Johnson always thought he knew what is best for us. He would have running like slaves on D’jango. Coach ran the soles off my cleats. After all this running, my girdle begun chafing creating a rash like an unchanged baby. My feet would always hurt after practice. Looking down my feet was throbbing like a heartbeat. We would run all the lines on the…

On the first day, all the team members dived into the water as soon as the coach gave the order. I was the only one who jumped in. After a few laps, I was far behind all the others. Although I was trying to catch up, I was out of breath. To make things worse, the coach was constantly correcting my technique. From my stroke to my flip turn to my dive, nothing I did seemed right to him.…

At 7:25am, I arrived at practice and was quickly spotted by the coach. He called me over and said, "You're a big, fast guy, and I want you to be a sprinter." I knew I was fast, but I thought that being 6'1 and 225 pounds, I would be considered overweight to be a sprinter. As the week went on, I qualified for the 200 meters in the Sophomore Invitational, which I ended up placing third in. After finishing the race, I felt energized, and my coach recognized my potential to be a 400 meter runner.…

For the first week or two of practice, I was skeptical if this sport was an appropriate fit for me, primarily because I had no idea of what to expect. Over the next 3 months of practicing I began to fall into place among the other athletes and to my surprise my coaches placed me in the fastest boat: the quad. Consequently, since this boat was also the most competitive boat, my placement in the quad was always being reevaluated to ensure that it had the fastest athletes in it. Receiving the news that I was in the quad swelled my ego, as it would any fifteen-year-old boy, to the point that the idea that a teammate might get faster than me was unheard-of.…

For the past fifteen years of my life I have been a swimmer. I wake up at six in the morning to jump in a cold pool to stare at a black line for miles, just to shed a hundredth of a second off my time. I have lived with the stench of chlorine and fried hair because I want to become better. There is neither money nor fame in swimming, just the strongest internal motivation that pushes me to be the best I can be. Swimming has made look for the path of most resistance, to enjoy hard work and not run away from it. I have been able to push my body to its physiological, psychological, and emotional limits and have learned so much through these trials. It has taught me leadership, teamwork, sportsmanship, and determination. Through years of hard work…

Swimming has been my favorite sport since I was a kid. The reason might be I wanted to be a mermaid living at the sea because of the mermaid tales I had read. However, I joined the swimming team when I was in high school. During that period, our team joined a lot of large-scale and famous swimming competitions by Hong Kong Swimming Association. It helped me to meet with other athletes and learn from them. We could share our experience, and discuss about swimming techniques. I even found out the deeper meaning of swimming in the competition.…
