The politicians that do best on Facebook are the ones who are personally invested in their digital strategy and integrate it into all aspects of their campaigns. Examples of this include the Obama campaign and House Republican leaders such as Eric Gantor, Paul Ryan and Kevin McGarthy—Expect even greater political engagement as an increasing number of Facebook users turn their online political activity into offline action (CementingSocialMedia’s).

Twitter will be used advertise the campaign on issues that children experience with incarcerated parents. Twitch will be used to create livestreaming for audiences of shared interest, which will also be posted to Youtube in order to reach a broader. Due to inconsistency of future viewing, Facebook would not be a proper social media platform for campaigning mainly because audiences are biased and composed of family and friends. Another reason why Facebook would not work for this campaign is because of the lack of confidentiality it maintains. Professors of communication Jacob Groshek and Daniela Dimitrova conducted a study to examine the correlation between online media use and political involvement during the 2008 political election. This study was done on a Midwestern statewide sample. According to the study, “A series of analyses of variance indicated that the increased use of weblogs, social networking sites, online video sites, and candidates' websites for news and campaign information purposes was moderately but positively related to political involvement” (Groshek, Dimitrova). Using social media is an easy way to show one’s support for a political candidate or to voice one’s political views. Relaying campaign news over the Internet was connected to a higher level of political involvement, while the use of blogs lowered the level of involvement. The study concluded online media only has political influence on certain aspects of the presidential…

Even though social networking hasn 't been a huge factor in politics for a long time, in the last few years it has certainly come on full force. Vincent Harris, leader of many successful political campaigns, has discovered "Unlike Google where ads are targeted to search or content key words on a specific site, Facebook ads allow you to identify and target people who are in 100% agreement with your values system, regardless of your ideology." Through Harris ' emphasis on ads, he highlights the realization that every tool is key to gaining the most support possible for a political campaign. By contacting users with values similar to the ones implemented in a campaign, a politician may be many times more successful in finding willing supporters. Campaign leaders, along with Harris, are fully aware of the way society is turning to social media, especially Facebook, as it 's key resource for information, and therefore utilizes this reliance to his advantage. Harris goes on to show even more realization of the help social networks can be to a campaign by expressing that "…politicians are beginning to understand that someone who comments on their Facebook page with a concern should…
