The candidates will campaign and run television ads to impact the opinions of voters to try and sway your vote. The voters will have to base what is said and seen to impact their vote. The way the nominees get to the general election is based off the perception of the candidate. One way voters decide if the candidate will receive their vote is the how the voter views the perception of the issues position. Voters will react either positively or negatively to the candidate’s views towards certain political issues, for instance if the nominee is not pro second amendment then the chance that you receive a vote from the right-winged conservative side is highly unlikely. Just as if the Republican Party would vote against the idea of same sex marriage. The second measure of deciding what candidate to vote for is how the people of the United States perceive the nominees character and morals. The majority of Americans will not vote for a candidate that has a tendency to lie, cheat, and steal, like some of the candidates in this year’s election. However the role the people play is limited to voting. Whereas a Participatory democracy is a society in which all citizens have equal chances to control the decision making that will affect them. In today’s society The United States uses a form of Elite democracy, as in the American people can vote for who they think will represent the people the best but as everyone knows that isn’t always the right person. An alternative to this is a way that the people can vote for the issues that they see in best interest for the country as a whole rather than from a politician’s point of view. This is called a direct democracy, a direct democracy is a system of democracy that gives the citizens a vast amount of involvement in the legislative process, and in return this gives the people the greatest amount of self-determination. An example of this form of democracy is in the country of Switzerland, and the people really have the biggest voice. I believe that this could be a huge upgrade on the way our country is run today, this would eliminate the big business and all the corporations running this country now, and really help out everybody not just the wealthy elitist that our government is set up to do
