Both poets use form to the comparison of the items that they are writing about. At a first glance of the poem island man it may seem like the form of the poem is like any poem just set out normally however once you have read the poem and understood what it is about and the two contrast between the sea and the city the poem looks completely different it could be seen in two ways the first way is that it is made to look like the sea and the waves with some words coming a lot further than others. Also when you turn the poem on its side the poem looks like it could be blocks of buildings are high and low with things like windows in them. However when you look at the form on Two scavengers you can immediately see that it looks unusual the lines are centred but they are not directly underneath each other in a neat way. Two scavengers is about democracy and treating people equally and how these two groups meet for an instant when you look at the form of the poem you can see that the lines meet for an instant. In both the poems colour is used to create imagery in the readers mind. In island man the colours vary, when he is talking about the Caribbean, the writer uses descriptive colourful and complex colours “Emerald Island” “blue surf” this creates a positive connotation and it makes it seem as though it is full of life and a happy place to be. However the colours used in stanza three and onwards have negative connotation” Grey” and “metallic” grey has the connotations of gloomy and unhappy which is how Island man is feeling about London.
