The Purpose:
The purpose of this lab was to recreate and simulate the reaction of an enzyme with its substrate.

Analysis Questions:
1. The “Toothpickase” enzyme has 2 subunits, the hands, acting as the enzyme.
2. The active site is the thumb and forefinger of what is acting as the enzyme.
3. As the supply of toothpicks runs out, the reaction rate remained constant.
4. If the toothpicks were spread out so that the “enzyme” would have to reach for them, the reaction rate would decrease, as it would require more work and time for the “enzyme” to reach the substrate.
5. If more toothpicks were added, the reaction rate would increase, as the “enzyme” would have more of the substrate to act upon.
6. If there were to be more people to serve as the enzyme, the reaction rate would greatly increase. There would be more of the “enzyme” to act upon the substrate.
7. If the person acting as the enzyme were to wear bulky gloves, the reaction rate would greatly decrease, as acting on the substrate would be more work.
8. The ‘Vmax’ is .55.

Analysis Questions:
1. The reaction rate was the lowest when the substrate concentration was at its lowest, at 10%, the “enzyme” would try to react with the non-substrate objects. The reaction rate was at the highest when the substrate concentration was high, at 70%.
2. As the substrate concentration increases, the reaction rate increases
Part C:
Analysis Questions:
Rate=1.43s at room temp
Rate=.71s at 32 degrees
The rate of reaction was
