Type Of Captain Analysis
I have had my ups and downs throughout my journey of being a leader, but it has taught me a lot that has made me the type of person I am today. In my last semester of 8th grade, I tried out for the cheer team at Kennedy High School and made varsity. Each year we had a new set of captains, but each year they were all very arrogant and closed-minded. From the beginning, my goal was to become captain one day and be different than the past captains. Being the type of captain to help and mentor each individual through moments of frustration. My junior year, my coach gave me the opportunity to be one of four captains. Being the only junior captain, I felt intimidated to speak up and take charge of the team, this reflected badly on me, and my position

The term captain is synonymous with the term leader. By definition, a leader is someone who is in an advanced position to take the initiative in order to go forth and show the way. A dance captain should be able to make intelligent and creative decisions quickly and efficiently. Dance teams are all about unity. An exceptional group glides across the floor with all of its dancers moving as one. There are no individual standouts. No weak links. But there is one person whose job is to make the team as strong as possible, on the floor and off. It’s one thing to be a good team player, but it's another to be a good captain. Few will have the opportunity to feel the weight of the responsibilities and the happiness of knowing you're making a difference. Being captain of any type of organization in my eyes is a huge job. It’s teaching respect by showing respect. It’s helping 11 girls, including myself, strive and push themselves to be the best dancers I know we all can be. Having the title of captain doesn’t mean being the boss of everyone, being in the front in every dance, or just thinking that the captain should come before everyone else. Captains are the inspiration of the team. They’re the person that everyone on the team looks up too. Being a natural born leader is also a big role of dance team. That means having self-confidence, good communication skills, courage, clear desire to make progress towards a goal, and a fair degree of understanding your fellow teammates. Being a captain requires you to focus on the big picture, doing what’s best for your team even on your worst days. If you’re negative, the team will take on the same attitude, even if everyone else has had a great day. As captain of your dance team, you’ll definitely encounter some sticky situations, like having to confront your friends when they aren’t practicing full-out or telling an injured teammate that she’ll have to sit out a performance. But it’s…

As a player for the Hanford West basketball team, I was placed into situations that required me to step up and be the leader of the team. One of these situations was during a game when our most talented player had been injured. I know my teammates relied on me to be the one to look up to for all the answers. I was certain I would have to go beyond my capabilities to lead this unit to victory. The game started off horribly because of the evident lack of effort from our team. As the commander of this group of young men I knew something had to change. I stepped out of my comfort zone and became very vocal in order to get some motivation pumping through our veins. Every time my teammates made a play I would be sure to acknowledge them in some way, whether it was a high five or a nod. This made me realize feedback is essential when taking on the leadership role in order to boost self the confidence of others. As the game went on we managed to pull off an outstanding team victory.…

Leadership is a prized commodity, however, it is not one that has always come naturally to me. I was a rather quiet kid growing up, and so I rarely let my voice be heard while I was at school. Despite my timid nature, I was able to develop enough self-confidence to open up to others and share my feelings through baseball. Baseball is truly a team sport, requiring constant communication and trust between teammates. As such, the close companionship I held with my team mates created the ideal environment for me to develop my leadership skills. Base running was always my strongest skill, so I constantly found myself teaching my teammates how to gain the advantage. I became the unofficial base running coach year after year, even as the teams changed…

If you are willing to persevere, you are certainly able to lead others through the road you've walked. Leaders help themselves and others to do the right things. They set direction and build an inspiring vision. Leadership is about mapping out where you need to go to "win" as a team; and it is dynamic, exciting, and inspiring. Through the academic program I was able to acquire leadership and become a role model for younger students. Most importantly I led others by being an example through my own victories. As a leader to others, you are able to make a big difference, and that difference affects the way they view their future and themselves. I learned to care for others and their needs, and I have seen the impact of the support I have given to them. I remember clearly that I used to struggle myself, as well; the feeling of never having someone there to inspire and encourage felt as if I had to venture into an unknown world. I knew for a fact that the Latino Scholars program was right for me. I wanted to lead others, motivate them to do their best, and most importantly give them a…

Preparatory school has marked a few of my significant leadership roles, such as being voted class representative for three years, being picked as a library prefect in year four, and finally chosen by teachers to a prefect in year eight. I have also been captain and co-captain of several netball, hockey and rounders teams. I believe that these leadership roles provided a great platform for me to continue to nurture my leadership skills. In addition, I believe that my leadership skills are not just exhibited in school, but also in Church.…

    Cheer Captain

There are many different opinions out there about cheerleaders, many good, and some bad. Some think of them as the girls standing by the football field, but I think of cheerleading as a symbol of all the spirit that we can share, and a token of appreciation toward the team that’s being cheered on. Cheerleading is such a vital part to many sections of the school. If I was chosen to be a captain for the 2013-2014 year, not only would I make sure that any negative opinions were squashed, but the great qualities the squad holds, are emphasized. I have come along way since i started cheerleading. I remember my first day of cheer and how nervous I was to be trying something I’ve never done before, and how inexperienced I was. Throughout the season, I’ve always worked my hardest to pick up new dances, stunts, and cheers right away. Since most of the new girls joining cheer this year have never done cheer before, I find it a privilege to help them grow to become the best they can be athletically, and with their attitudes. I think an important quality of being a captain is always, always, including everyone! I feel like i dedicated my time to be the best cheerleader i can be and also the best person i can be for myself and i have accomplished it, but im not finished yet. I learn new things everyday, you learn in the process. I want the new girls to be the best they can be, i think i can really help them. Actually, i know i can. It's super hard to be confident and i learned that but i built up my confidence i want these girls to experience their first year of cheer and be like "wow". I've discovered myself in so many ways, i want the new team to do so as well. Cheeleading is something im very passionate about and i just want the world to know that. I know my schedule for the next school year will be a problem considering i might not be able to have cheer sixth period, but i will try my hardest to work something out. I need a chance. I…

For the past four years, I have been heavily involved in the cheerleading team. I have been a member of this squad since our very first practice in the cafeteria.
