    Lockie Leonard

Lockie Leonard Legend demonstrates how different characters can resolve similar conflicts using different coping skills. The conflicts faced by the characters and their final resolutions promote certain values, both from the characters point of view, and the authors. Lockie & Sarge are viewed as conscious characters and perceive the seriousness of the situation in the novel. Foregrounding and privileging are utilized in Lockie Leonard Legend in the instance of Nan & Pop, by positioning them as negative characters in the novel. In the opening paragraph, the general theme of the novel is set by introducing the authors use of dolphins as a symbol of the importance of family. The shark may be considered as an omen, a representation of Mrs Leonards sickness. Throughout the novel, the author creates the characters, in a way that promotes the values of family and how they must stick together to survive.…

Throughout history, people have assembled mixed attitudes towards the Puritan community. However, after analyzing a passage from Nathaniel Hawthorne’s The Scarlet Letter, I have realized Hawthorne’s attitude towards the Puritans. The author cleverly portrayed his perspective through his syntax, diction, and imagery. Based on the authors writing style, I have concluded that Hawthorne finds the Puritans “severe”, “grim”, “rigid”, “awful”, and “cold”.…

In 2005 the world had been introduced to one of the best collegiate running backs to ever go through the University of Southern California. His name is Reggie Bush and he achieved one of the best personal awards any collegiate football player could want and that would be the Heisman award. Reggie bush played running back for USC in 2005, he was 6 foot tall and weighed 200 pounds, and he played tailback as a sophomore in college and played in 13 games. He was named “Pigskin club of Washington D.C offensive player of the year.” He was also named the2004 PAC-10 offensive player of the year, “Then He was named the 2005 Pac-10 Offensive Player of the Year for the second consecutive year (just the fifth player ever so honored and the first non-quarterback to do it in 20 years) and also made the All-Pac-10 first team as a tailback (the squad's only unanimous pick) and second team as a punt returner.” Nor do I need to mention that he won the 2005 Heisman trophy award by a landslide. Bush received 2,541 points and beat Young by a staggering 93 points. Everybody knows that bush deserves the Heisman trophy whether they want to admit to it or not Bush was the best.…

The Victorian Era was a time during which Queen Victoria, born in 1819, reigned over the United Kingdom, ruling from 1837 until her death in 1901(“Victorian Era”). 1830 is considered the beginning of the Victorian Era to some literary historians, but the keystone that really made its mark on this era was the passage of the First Reform Bill in 1832 . This bill gave the middle-class Englishmen some form of hope toward finally being heard by their government (“Victorian Era”). “The death of the poet laureate William Wordsworth in 1850, rang the death knell for idyllic romanticism in the arts and the onset of Victorian high seriousness with the ascent of Alfred, Lord Tennyson (1809-1892) as the new poet laureate”(“Victorian Era”). This time period was more of a time of transition, and the end of the Victorian Era became evident in 1861, when prince Albert died of typhoid or cancer. The Victorian Era was considered the time period when literature began to develop from Romantic to the literature of the twentieth century (“Victorian Literature”). The widowed queen withdrew from the throne therefore robbing Great Britain of an intelligent and astute leader”(“Victorian Era”).…
