I feel that the Nicaraguan government is just as corrupt at the United States government. Not only are we assisting in their overthrow of different leaders, we are helping them rig elections while they terrorize their own citizens and neighboring countries. We wanted to stake claim on the possibility of building a canal, and it backfired in a sense. We ended up being involved with a Nicaraguan civil war, where we lost our own troops. Our intervention failed to an extent. We were able to help Nicaragua create a higher functioning government, while continuing to stake claim in the country. The United States intervention was not positive for Nicaragua. We were not wanted there, nor were we that much of a benefit. We should have left sooner, and we should have offered assistance and built a better relationship with Nicaragua without military force. This is similar to our intervention in the Dominican Republic. We once again were trying to create a personal gain for ourselves, and lost. We lost our troops, we lost money and supplies, and we lost respect from other world leaders who were watching us attempt to utilize imperialism over smaller, less advance countries.
