Uber recently released a new commercial asking for drivers, especially millennials. The main character of the commercial repeats a phrase throughout the commercial: “go from earning, to chilling”. He uses these words to target millennials that have a strong desire to work when they want to. The main character is a millennial, he goes from driving people around to relaxing in a pool and hitting a piñata at a party. Uber has effectively used this commercial to hire people by making the appeal that being an Uber driver is a great way to earn extra money, connect with a range of people, and enjoy free time at various parties and pools.
One of the first things that catches a millennials attention in this commercial is the two words “side hustle”. A younger person is more than likely going to know what the phrase “side hustle” means than a person that is above forty. They use …show more content…
a millennial as the main character to show that this phrase targets millennials. His phone flashes on the screen with the number $325.80. A number that looks very appetizing to someone that has recently graduated college or just bought their first house. People look for ways to earn extra cash and this commercial has demonstrated that it is as easy as a click of a button to start earning extra cash.
The second way Uber talks to millennials through this commercial, is by showing that an Uber driver will encounter different types of people.
The driver is shown at a party using the swing his passenger showed him in the car, to hit a piñata. He then asks his next passenger if she would like some piñata candy. This creates a connection with the two people through piñata candy. The people in the backseat are very nonchalant, giving the idea to young people that this would be a fun, interesting job with no challenges.
The third and final way Uber targets millennials is by showing that people have a lot of down time when they are not driving. This targets them specifically, because millennials tend to be a generation in which it is all about them. Through this commercial, Uber shows how the targeted audience can work when they want to and play when they desire to. The main character is shown in a swimming pool in the daytime when people are usually at work, showing millennials, they can be able to enjoy their day instead of being trapped in an
office.
Uber has set out and targeted millennials in this commercial by showing that being an Uber driver is a great way to earn extra money, a way to meet new people, and a way to have a flexible schedule for work and play. They have shown that a person can work when they want to, simply by pressing a button saying they are online. Drivers can also stop working at any time they choose, and engage in leisure activities. Becoming an Uber driver is very appealing to millennials because they can have down time to do what they feel like doing, a trait so many of them strive for. Uber did an excellent job hitting this concept in the commercial.
