She is sent out to break her promise with Shay that she wouldn't tell, but all Tally wants is to be pretty. So she is willing to betray her friend. Tally uses the clues Shay left behind for her, the first clue is "Take the coaster straight past the gap". Which is easy for Tally to understand because her and Shay snuck out one day into the abandoned world and Shay showed Tally what we used to call a roller coaster. They rode on it using their hover boards, but then there was a break or gap in the coaster. So every clue that Tally was given is something personal to the two of them that only they would know. Every clue was like this, even though some might be harder to figure out. Like one clue which required Tally to make her “worst mistake”. The only thing Tally could think of was taking her hover board off the cliff and into the ocean which sounded life threatening. Tally slowly got closer to the water trying to see if her hover boards connection would last but then suddenly she felt the board give out and let her free fall to the icy waters below. But right before she hit the water Tally and the board stopped. There must've been some sort of iron deposit under the water but falling definitely seemed like it was going to be her worst
