The Oxford Dictionary defines beauty as “a combination of qualities, such as shape, color, or form , that pleases the aesthetic senses, especially the sight” (“beauty”). In “Autobiography of a Face,” Lucy Grealy expands this definition by exploring her own interpretation of beauty throughout the various stages of her life.…

Thesis: Although the United States of America has branched away to form their own government system, a group of parties seem to develop over time. The Federalist Party, who is proudly run by Hamilton, and the Democratic-Republican, who is run by Jefferson, both use ways to indulge themselves in making the United States a much better place to live compared to what they use to live under England’s rule.…
It is said that “Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.” This means that everyone defines beauty differently. The dictionary defines beauty as “the quality present in a thing or person that gives intense pleasure or deep satisfaction to the mind.” There have another point about image of beauty which is wealthy. Most of the time people define beauty depending on their culture and usually uniqueness. For example, many white people want to their tan, and many Asian people want to whiten their skin. When comparing American and Chinese images of beauty using the physical characteristics, personality, and extrinsic factors, one sees more similarity than different.…

Beauty is a misconception. America's standards of beauty are based on physical appearance (hair, shape, complexion, height, and etc). Standards of beauty promoted in the media are deceiving because in magazines, photos are edited to change the physical body structure, complexions, and facial features of models and celebrities. Editors say that photos are edited to inspire people to stay fit, to draw attention to the magazine, and to make the people more appealing to the human eye.…

What is beauty? Beauty, by definition, is, “the quality or aggregate of qualities in a person or thing that gives pleasure to the senses or pleasurably exalts the mind or spirit” (Merriam-Webster). Throughout her life, Lucy Grealy struggles with her own definition of beauty. To her, beauty equals happiness. As a cancer patient, she underwent many surgeries which left her with a disfigured face. Since she did not think she was beautiful, she was not happy, or rather, she would not allow herself to be happy. “I didn’t deserve it, and thus I shouldn’t want it. She blames all of her unhappiness and misfortune on the way her face looks, when in reality, she is causing herself to be unhappy by dwelling on the negative aspects of her life. She says,…
Everyone has their own opinions on what beauty consists of. It is in cliché expression “beauty is in the eye of the beholder.” This means beauty can come from within a person’s soul or from the outside of looking at woman’s body. As it just happened, saying the word “beauty” on most occasions comes hand in hand with the word woman. In the story “A Woman’s Beauty: Put – Down or Power Source” by Susan Sontag. Sontag states; “To be called beautiful is thought to name something essential to women’s character and concerns. (In contrast to men whose essence is to be strong or effective, or competent.)” (Sontag.488.1) The word beautiful may not seem synonymous with men in 2015 but handsome is, as the word “handsome” feels more masculine.…
Scientist has determined that the most beautiful celebrities have the most facial symmetry. The beauty of people is also based on how they act as it is to looks. The best looking people become hideous if they act that way and vice versa. That is a fact that anyone can anyone can agree to, but beauty is not just in people. Beauty to me is enjoying things that are heard, seen, or read, something that leaves an impression.…
Freud believes that it is part of everyone’s personality to seek pleasure through violence; it is part of the “ID.” However, the ego negotiates between the ID and superego, meaning the majority of people can regulate between the morals of society and their own pleasures. I agree with this, as does Sara Shepard, the author of “Pretty Little Liars.” I believe that people who seek pleasure through violence are ill minded, and have psychological issues, due to the fact that the ego should be able to tell the brain to follow the morals of society. ‘A,’ a character from Pretty Little Liars, nobody can solve the mystery regarding who exactly ‘A’ is, however they are ill-minded, and seek pleasure in harming others as a joke. Ill-minded people like this are evil.…
Beauty could be defined as an outward apperience.According to William Shakespeare(1588) “Beauty is bought by judgement of the eye”. A lot of people cave into beauty as being a thing they look at. Beauty is something that brings their eyes happiness like Stendhal(1871)said, “Beauty is the promise of happiness”. They lust after someone because of the pleasure they see out of the situation. They might not know it but they are looking at if you have straight teeth, a "normal" size nose, how defined your cheeks are, how sharp your chin is, how much you weigh, how fit you are, the shape of your body, and a lot more. To me, I feel this is the wrong way to think. I might on occasion do this but it is not right judging people like that. God made everyone equal and they should all be treated equal.…
