The Education of China and the United Kingdom
China and the UK are two very different countries, not only in the culture, but also in the education, healthcare, economy and so on. In my opinion, differences between studying in China and in the UK are more than others, and you can only find a few similarities between them. The purpose of this essay is to compare and contrast the education of China and the UK.
The general education systems of China and the UK are quite similar, both of them have primary school, junior high school, high school and university. But the undergraduate degree classification systems are different: A British degree may be awarded with or without honors, with the class of an honors degree based on a weighted average mark of the assessed work a candidate has completed. Below is a list of the possible classifications with common abbreviations. • First class honors (1st) • Second class honors, upper division (2.i) • Second class honors, lower division (2.ii) • Third class honors (3rd) • Ordinary degree (Pass) (British undergraduate degree classification, 2012)
“First class honors” and “second class honors, upper division” students have chances to continue studying to get master degrees. In China some universities will use a final examination to assess students have the ability to get a degree or not. But sometimes even if these students pass the examination, they still can not continue studying, because the quota is full.
The most notable difference is teaching style. Now, in China, there are still a lot of teachers using exam-oriented education. At the beginning of a term, teachers will know the standard of an exam. Then they ask students to remember points of the subject. When students get questions in the examination, they can
