Una breve biografía de la vida de Anders Celsius
ANDERS CELSIUS

Anders Celsius nació el 27 de noviembre del año1701 en la ciudad de Upsala, Suecia.

Celsius es principalmente conocido por la escala de temperatura q lleva su nombre, aunque, su formación y carrera académica como astrónomo, además de sus viajes por Europa y su expedición a Laponia, muestra un perfil característico de los grandes científicos.

La expedición a Laponia, en la q el participo, era para medir un arco del meridiano terrestre, Con esta expedición estaba en juego la imagen de la figura de la tierra, ya fuese achatada como dijo Newton o oblonga según descartes. Al finalizar la expedición finalmente le dieron la razón a Isaac newton. Después Celsius regresa a Upsala y se incorpora en la enseñanza de la astronomía.

Antes de Celsius ya eran utilizadas las escalas termométricas centígradas, pero fue el quien la s popularizo gracias a su determinación de dos puntos constantes en ellas, los cuales eran el de congelación y ebullición del agua, cuyo intervalo lo dividió en cien partes o grados iguales. Al punto de congelación le dio el grado 100 y al de ebullición el 0. La escala centígrada actual, en la q fueron invertidos los puntos, fue introducida en el observatorio de Upsala en 1747, durante mucho tiempo se conoció como "termómetro sueco". La expresión "termómetro de Celsius"se popularizo hasta aprox. 1800.

Junto a su asistente Olor Hiorter, Celsius fue también el primero en sugerir que el fenómeno de las auroras boreales tiene causas magnéticas, lo cual derivo a través de observaciones detalladas por periodos de tiempo largos a costas de la inclinación de la aguja de una brújula y su correlación con una mayor actividad magnética de la aurora.
