He was placed as a member of the bomber named super man. This plane was destroyed with the new one being nicknamed the Green Hornet. The men of the Green Hornet soon found themselves adrift in the sea with no idea of what to do next. Only three survivors severely limited their options. They had to battle one of the hardest things to battle on Earth, the sea itself. However when their bodies were declining they kept their minds incredibly sharp. Showing determination in both Louie and Phil: “Louie found that the raft offered an unlikely intellectual refuge” (173). Life as a POW under the Japanese is one of the toughest and cruelest situations in likely the entire world's history. It emotionally and physically scarred thousands upon thousands of prisoners. Many didn’t make it out alive because they were so physically beaten or scared out of their minds do to the emotional trauma. Those who resisted were beat even more and often had less rations to eat. Louie was among those who decided to resist the Japanese due to his well-known determination: “Though their resistance was dangerous dignity was preserved and with it life itself”
