In both families, the appreciation and honor they give to their fathers is extraordinary. Throughout the book, Chaim Potok emphasizes on how Danny respects his father even though his father does not give him love like regular fathers. Many times in the book, Danny repeatedly tells Reuven how wise or right his father is because Reuven does not always understand. After Danny’s father allows him to start seeing Reuven again, he tells Reuven, “‘He is a great man,’ said Danny evenly. ‘He must have a reason.’” (261) Here, not only does the passage demonstrate how Danny sees his father, but it also shows that Danny believes his father had wisdom in doing what he was doing. In the entire book, Danny and Reuven display a respect for the reverence to patriarchy.…
Helen relationship with her father is that she feels that it is not fair that he was not there for her and her siblings Helen feels he didn’t make any sacrifices. Helen feels that her father was never there to help her with her with the relationship she had with her mother because he was working all the time. I believe the defense she uses for her father is that he had to work so that is why he was not there for her and her siblings, Helen feels it is her father’s fault that her brother is mess up and she avoids being angry with her father with not being there for her brother and the family but she is really upset that he wasn’t there to save her from her mother. Helen feels she cannot tell her mother how angry she is at her, I think Helen might feel her mother took anger out on her because the father was not there all the time, Helen is angry with her father because he was not there but she…
In the book Night by Elie Wiesel, there are many father-son duos. In my opinion, a good relationship between a father and his son are vital. Their relationships with each other are varied in terms of agreeability and love for each other. The Germans have sent the Jews off to concentration camps and caused very trying times. They have torn whole family’s apart and sent people at each other’s throats.…

The first relationship displayed in the novel is between Henry and his father. Growing up, Henry’s dad, Mr. Lee, shows him little affection. From a young age, Henry has to fight for attention, regardless of the fact that he is an only child. His father seems to prefer working or seeing how the war in the Pacific is going, rather than talking to his son. When he does talk to Henry, all he wants to hear about is school. Mr. Lee makes no effort to engage with his son on an emotional level. Henry grows up seeking approval from his father that is never validated. Another reason Henry is unable to form a strong family bond is because his father only allows him to speak English at home. Mr. Lee feels it is imperative that his son learns English…
What is the "mother-daughter" relationship? I have no direct information on this because I am not a daughter. I do, however, have two sisters, and their relationship with my mother is very different when compared to the characters in the short stories "Who's Irish?" and "New York Day Women." Relationships between mothers and daughters take different forms for different people. The mother/daughter relationship amongst different people can be the same, but also very different.…

In the short stories “Arm Wrestling with My father” by Brad Manning and “Shooting Dad” by Sarah Vowell, both authors depict scenes communicating their individual relationships with their fathers. Manning uses description and narrative to depict his relationship with his father, he explains that he carries a competitive nature along with his father and he feels oppressed by him. Manning show that within his struggle with his father he grows a physical relationship with him and as he grows into an adult, his differences become clear to him and his competitions with his dad ends in an anti-climatic wrestling match. Vowell uses analogies and comparisons to depict her relationship with her father. She shows the obvious differences between her and her father, in terms of political views, interests, and hobbies. As the story progresses she…
A father and son relationship is valuable in different aspects. With memories creating nostalgia and events making learning experiences. The most important factor of a father and son relationship is that both the father and son are able to obtain a new ability or trait out of it.…
The film shows the mothers interacting more with the babies than the fathers. But the social interaction that fathers provide show a great insight to a community’s culture since a fathers’ roles can vary greatly depending on how they perceive gender roles. Hatti’s father appears in the film the most. It shows him taking her to a “mommy and baby” class, feeding her, and taking her a shower. At one point at a park, he puts her on a roller coaster and she ends up falling. Fathers are known to take higher risks with their children, which are important since mothers tend to cuddle their daughters more. Ponijao’s father did not appear in the film, but he did appear in the bonus features and got credit. Mari’s father is shown entertaining her while he talks on the phone.…
Parent- children relationships in these short stories are not ideal, but they are close. In these stories, the children seem to be close to their parents in one way or another. Even though there is an unfortunate event in the stories (Guy Dying in “A Wall of Fire Rising” and Josephine’s mother in “Nineteen Thirty Seven”), there is still a bond between the parent and the children. In A Wall of Fire Rising, Guy was very excited to tell his father about his role in the play only to be robbed of it by his mother. This example alone shows that the relationship between Guy and his son little Guy was very strong. Little Guy seemed as though he always wanted to please his father. This is evident even through the tragedy in the end in which Guy dies and his son recites his lines over his body.…
