Under The Persimmon Tree, By Suzanne Fishers
(RTS) Clearly, in the book Under The Persimmon Tree, Suzanne Fishers correctly shows the treatment of women based of reality and uses those facts to create conflict and develop traits in the two main characters. (BS-4) The two main characters, Nusrat and Najmah, are affected by the laws regarding women and land ownership and thus directed down separate paths at the end. (BS-3) These Taliban laws about women’s land ownership are accurately portrayed in the book compared to reality. (BS-2) Suzanne Fishers also uses women’s outdoor restrictions to develop conflict and new character traits for Nusrat and Najmah. (BS-1) The Taliban rule that women are not allowed to be outside with a male relative is correctly used by the author based on the real
world. (R) Before making a flash judgement of a woman or harming a girl, realize that they are just as equal to you as you are to them.
