My rationale for the selection of these outcomes relates to experiences whilst working in acute care environments, it became increasingly apparent that management and identification of risk both to the patient and within the environment is paramount. Risk assessments need not be complex. It is usually a straightforward but conscientious study of anything in the work environment that might cause someone harm (Health and safety executive, 2012).Once the assessment is complete, manager’s review the identified risks and decide the appropriate action to prevent accidents and injuries. The final task is then to create and act upon a risk assessment plan. Risk assessments are important as they reduce the risks of accidents and ill health to you and your patients that could be very costly both physically and financially. A short story I have read and thoroughly enjoyed is “Home” by “Iain Crichton Smith” I chose this short story because I found the authors’ style of writing interesting and the way he showed the characters’ experiences and emotions. The short story is based around the main characters’ understanding of home and the experience he has which, I believe, changes his idea of the definition of home. In this essay I will analyse the techniques used by the author to show the true definition of the word “Home” to the main character.…

Hard Russian Life ` Marcus Aurelius' essay “On Getting Out of Bed” Marcus tells himself that he's got to get out of bed early and take up his work without resentment—especially since he's doing what he was born to do. After all, if birds do it and bees do it, why should he be grouchy about helping the universe to hum along as it ought to? Apparently, this is not encouragement enough for Marcus, who still doesn't want to get out of bed and get to work. Marcus's brain argues with him, telling him that there are limits to everything; especially things which give him pleasure. Marcus scolds himself for being too willing to exceed his limits in pleasure, but not in good actions.…

Leaving the only “home” that one has ever known can be very emotional, especially when you hold so many memories and have established a routine of life in that home. Many say “live life to the fullest,” yet they come up with excuse after excuse that holds them from leaving. They feel as if they can’t make this decision on their own. Trying to find the meaning of life and making attempts to discover the reason why they were put on this Earth is hard enough. Every day one lives new experiences that we hope will one day lead us to our destined future. Yet, for so many, not knowing where to begin keeps them from moving forward. Reminiscing on the memories created in our home; thinking about how much those memories have faded, and will eventually disappears if they are to leave that home. Being attached to the environment that one is used to or the routine of life holds one back from what the future could hold. Even when given the key to escape, thinking too hard makes one doubt their ability to adapt to a new environment. “What if’s?” and breaking that routine of life gives one fear of failure, not “making it” once leaving the environment. Feeling stuck in trying to find meaning of life makes it easier to come up with excuses to stay in the routine in which one is accustomed to.…
