1.1 Describe the different features of telephone systems and how to use them
Telephones have many Different features that a business can use to their advantage
One of these features is telecommunications. This enables users to have conversations, in a business, this would be used to communicate within the business, and also make external calls to clients/customers.
Another feature is “Call Holding”. This enables the user to put the call on hold (the user on the other end of the phone will not be able to hear you, and instead will be listening to silence or whatever is available, mainly dependant on the handset) this allows users to perform tasks that the user ideally would not want the
person on the other end of the phone to hear, for example finding an item of information or find another member to then take over the call.
Another feature available is the “answer phone”, this allows people that ring the phone to leave a message if no one is available to answer it. These messages can then be listened to a later date and even saved to the phone.
Some handsets also give the option to be able to send SMS Messages, these are limited messages with 160 characters maximum. These are seen as normally seen as informal.
“Call waiting” is another option available on some handsets, this tells the user that a phone call can be taken. This is normally shown by a short bleep or a flashing LED, again this is dependent on the handset
