UNEMPLOYMENT INSURANCE POLICY (prepared by Tadey Tarimo)
Unemployment occurs in many forms and it has been a crucial problem countryside and whole over the world. These have become an issue to majority of Tanzanian and many people around the globe, the situation has forced various countries to either formulate or adopt some policies to rectify the issue. The magnitude of the issue has practically depicted in the research conducted in 2012 by African Economic Outlook in Tanzania, the study which aimed at assessing various programs and policies in various sectors and their contribution to Gross Domestic Product, in improving economy, and unemployment reduction.
According to African Economic Outlook 2012 unemployment is becoming a concern with nearly 2.4 million unemployed people most of them young representing 10.7% of the population. Indeed, the situation of the youth population, particularly those in urban areas, is critical in terms of unemployment. Lack of sufficient employment opportunities for young women, who have increasingly participated in the labor market, further complicates the situation. The effects of the current global crisis, though not yet showing up in the statistics, could create additional challenges, in particular with respect to the tourism industry and export-oriented sectors.
POLICY STATEMENT: A nation with strong and competitive economy, a nation with minimal unemployment rate after unemployment insurance has been intergraded in all sectors of the economy.
POLICY MISSION
The mission of the unemployment insurance policy with regard unemployment problem in the country is, reducing unemployment level by realizing the contribution of different economic agencies; provide a road map to minimal unemployment rate with consideration to labour market situation in the country, administrative capacity, income and rate of growth of the economy of the country.
