Unethical Behavior in the Work Place Business ethics is a vital element to the growth and success of any business. To be ethical means to have a system of moral principles. Ethics alone is a branch of philosophy dealing with values relating to human conduct, with respect to the rightness and wrongness of certain actions and to the goodness and badness of the motives and ends of such actions. To have business ethics you would take the meaning of ethics and apply it to the things that go on it the work place. We are going to take a look a few behaviors that are unethical while at work, regardless of what another co-worker may be leading you to believe. A common unethical behavior carried out by almost all employees is the use of office supplies, time, and equipment being utilized for reasons other than the business needs for the BSSL. For example, we had recently fired an employee that on company time was using the internet, fax machine, printer, and office supplies to prosper his internet business he ran on the side. Behavior like this can cost the BSSL thousands of dollars per year. Even if employees are not using the supplies to that extreme, with over three hundred employees, if half those employees use our company supplies for personal gain it decreases the profit margins for our company. There are also other kinds of unethical behaviors that qualify for extreme legal consequences when employees are caught. For instance, if an employee had knowledge of inside information that are stock was going to plummet and made deals with some of our high investors for warning them of this information in exchange for a cash payoff.
