Unforgettable Memories in My Grandmother’s House
When I was young I lived in my grandmother’s house because both my mother and father had a job. The house was little bit small, but it was most comfortable place in the world. Color of the house was light yellow, so my neighbor called my home ‘yellow house’. Since my grandmother’s house was located in near mountain and also around the house, there were many trees, I could smell the scent of grass and flowers. In addition, early in the morning, I could hear the song of birds. Sometimes, the song roused me from sleep. Not only that, while I lived in the house I had 10times 4seasons and each season gave me special memory. Especially, in autumn there were 2 special events. These are Chuseok and harvesting. First, Chuseok is definitely the biggest national holiday in Korea, which is also called Korean Thanksgiving Day. In Chuseok, my relatives came to grandmother’s house. The previous day of Chuseok, grandmother, my mother and other aunts spent time to prepare foods and then my family sat around and started to make songpyeon, which was the highlight of the day. Although I was not good at making songpyeon, it was really fun and interesting. On the morning of Chuseok, our family was so busy. We had to hold an ancestral rite. Our family put diverse foods on the table and wore Korean traditional clothes, Hanbok. My father also wrote some information about family on a paper and placed it on the table. After that, under uncle’s direction, we started our ceremony. After finishing the ceremony we drove about an hour and visited the tomb. It was grave of my grandfather’s parents. After coming back to the house, we had a delicious lunch and started to take a rest and catted affectionately. It was the end of happy Chuceok! From the last part of summer to autumn my family had to gather in a crop such as jujubes, persimmons and chilies. First of all, we harvest red chili because it was ripe most rapidly among them. When it got really red and smelled like spicy

I was born in 1947, the youngest in the family, in the town of Shumen by the seaside on the cost of the Black sea. We had a two story house on the hills. In the winter season the streets were covered with four feet of deep snow. In spring, Lipton trees bloomed with flowers, lining on both sides of the streets. The smell of its fragrance still remains in my memory. In the summer after school, we were vacationing for three months in the beach house by the Black Sea. My father stayed behind to provide for us. Because of his love, goodness and kindness of his heart to our family, he struggled a lot to make up with the new government…

In the story “_The Jilting of Granny Weatherall_” Katherine Porter tells a compelling story of a dying eighty-year old woman who is reminiscing on the memories she had throughout her life. Out of all the memories Granny Weatherall is remembering, one seems to stand out more than any of the others; the memories of her bridegroom jilting her on her wedding day. This memory seems to plague Granny Weatherall’s last moments of her life. In the story, you see Granny Weatherall transitioning throughout her life from a healthy, lively, and confident woman '' to a woman who is bent, confused, distorted, and unable to let go of her past memories. In the beginning of the story, Granny Weatherall is definitely in a state of denial when it comes to her health and well being. She feels like an eighty year old woman but yet wants nothing to do with Doctor Harry and the hospital staff. Granny Weatherall states “That brat ought to be in knee breeches. Doctoring around the country with spectacles on his nose! Get along now, take your schoolbooks and go. There’s nothing wrong with me.” (1388) When Granny Weatherall makes remakes such as that one; I can only assume that she is in denial of her state of mind and her health. Granny Weatherall was old but she was also very independent, and felt like she was able to care for herself. She didn’t want others such as Doctor Harry telling her that she was unable to care for herself or that she could no longer be independent. She was a very strong willed woman and wanted it to stay that way. Granny Weatherall was also very certain of her faith in GOD. She was sure that her faith in GOD had secured her a place in heaven after death. She was very much involved with her faith; and she trusted a higher power to take care of her in her afterlife. However, by the end of the story I saw Granny Weatherall slowly fading away. She was more surprised that George who is the man who jilted her on her wedding day was not there through this tough time in…

And so, I made my way in, as I tried to push open the door, it collapsed which made me even more warry of what was to come. But then suddenly I found myself in my parent’s room, which still held the scent of my mother’s perfume and the strong aroma of my father’s deodorant. Though this sense was in my head, and soon I came back to reality, by having the overwhelming stench of rotten floorboards and the garden, makings its home inside make its way inside of my nostrils. I see, for the first time in a long time, my parents, though not how I imagined. Their bones, though very brittle were laying on the bed, with my mother in my father’s arms, I broke down.…

The method of concluding traits about a character is known as characterization, and it is when an author lets readers know any kind of information regarding the characters in a story. The two types of characterization are direct and indirect. Direct characterization occurs when an author directly states a trait of a character. Indirect, on the other hand, is used when the author shows a character 's trait through their actions, thoughts and speech, appearance, or that of another character. Truman Capote 's short story "A Christmas Memory", is about a young boy, referred to as "Buddy," and his best friend, or older cousin, who is unnamed in the story. As a tradition, the two friends bake fruitcakes and send the baked goods to acquaintances they have met only once or twice, and to people they have never met at all. They live in a house with other relatives, who are authoritative and stern, and have a dog named Queenie. As the two try to make the best of their Christmas, complications occur and Buddy is sent off to military school, thus making it their last Christmas together. - July 2008- When I lived in Broward, I had a humongous mango tree that my cousin, Kenneth, and I liked to climb. It was still summer when we decided to get an old mattress and put it by the tree so we could relax there. One of those days my little cousin, Kevin, wanted to learn how to climb the mango tree. Back then Kenneth was still young and devious; he treated his little brother and sister (Kevin & Kelly) horribly. So that one day someone, I’m guessing it was Kenneth, moved the mattress. So I stayed down incase they decided to drop a few mangos, but to my surprise my little cousin was hanging from a branch, which had not yet broken because he was so small. I had not yet noticed the moved mattress, as I was watching my cousin try to grab his little brother. But I was mistaking when I thought he was trying to grab him because he was just stretching his arm to tickle Kevin. And as I told Kenneth to stop, Kevin just let go with laughter. As I remember it, it looked as though it was all in slow motion; Kenneth laughing on the mango tree, Kevin with eyes wide open falling to his pain. As I watched Kevin’s impact with the ground, he seemed to bounce about two times. After a few hours the doctor said he fractured his arm.…

We talked about many things around us from our daily life to our memory. At that time, we are being straightened to each other. Suddenly, our parents mentioned about our sister Chi and they committed that they have the most responsible for their daughter death. Their daughter had had a difficult time in assimilating with the American culture and in school because she fully rejected any femininity she held in Vietnam and embraced her true masculine identity to its entirely. As a result of that she received both a beat from our father and a teacher intervention. Perhaps, we should sympathize with her, or at least we should listen to her feelings and thoughts, but we didn’t. As they mentioned to her, all the member’s in the family eyes started turning to red. At that time, we didn’t know what else to say, Hung patted they on the shoulder and said, “That’s fine, Thong and Anh. Everything was the past, just let it passes over.” Besides that, I thought about the Little Niece beggar who I saw and gave all of my money to her in the Turtle Fountain. Numerous of questions pumped up in my mind “how is she?”, “is she still a beggar?”, and “is she still alive or not?” She is the one who made we awake and made me aware of my truly feelings and thoughts as well as how I act when facing a pain. Thus, I went to the Turtle Fountain the day after and hoped that I will meet her again and say “thank you” to…

Having parted it for almost ten years, some details of the house are out of my grasp. The memory of the house now stands as a symbol of my childhood. It is the only place that I remember nothing but pure happiness, suffused with youthful innocence and carefree laughter that would never fade.…

    A Summer with My Aunt

I’m not really sure what compelled me to spend the summer with my aunt; perhaps it was my overwhelming curiosity or the fact that I love children. In any case I had agreed to live with a woman I had only met several times throughout my life, but really all I remember about her from those short visits were her red toes and the way she spent money. She would visit about every four years and every visit she would always spend a pretty penny on my sister and me. I, of course, was not used to spending any amount of money because my parents were doing well enough to keep my sister and me in school, so the idea of having leisurely money was a new concept which I craved. As a child I admired this woman for many reasons and wanted to be like her. I wanted to live in a nice neighborhood with a big house, I wanted to drive a beautiful white shiny car and wear new clothes, I wanted to be strong and healthy , but most of all I wanted to be successful like she was. So I spent my days in school preparing for college so that someday I would be able to be like her. Things changed, though, when I moved down to Texas for two months to take care of her nine month old son, Luke; as it turns out Gretchen Decker was and is not as happy with her life as I thought she was.…
