For instance, 47% of schools require a school uniform, the reasons I strongly disagree is because of the cost, being unsafe, and preventing individuality from young children. In my opinion, school uniforms are not needed in schools. In the first place, the cost could go up to at least $249 for shirts, pants, shoes, and any other requirements the chosen school has. For many families, uniforms are a financial burden, without uniforms many families could buy cheaper clothing. Also, for other families it could break the bank, many families have low income so they will definitely not be able to buy the average uniforms. Uniforms have a significant cost and can definitely not be paid by most families. In the second place, there will always be able a way to be unsafe at school. For …show more content…

In our rights as Americans we have the freedom of expression, if we cannot have our freedom of expression to just dress ourselves that the school districts are violating our rights as Americans. In explanatories we can choose the class yes, but when we are in the class we have very seldom chances to pick what we do in the class we cannot choose what we want to draw in art, we cannot pick what we sing in choir so what choices will we have if we cannot even dress ourselves. As we get older dressing ourselves will be more and more crucial, if we have job interviews and we do not know how to dress is because we will not have our previous knowledge as children. For students that have different sexuality, they may want to dress differently because of their sexuality, but that is where the situation comes in, with having different sexuality most tend to dress a little different, but with school uniforms they may not dress the way they feel needed too. Moreover, when students are allowed to wear whatever they want, it causes judgment. If you don’t have the latest in fashion or have something that everybody around you does, you will get teased. If you don’t have money and you get all your clothes from goodwill, while the girl next to you has the newest Louie Vuitton purse, it causes a decrease in your self-confidence. Though this breaks the first amendment “freedom of expression”, your expression in the way you dress should not be putting you at risk for bullying and lack of confidence. Uniforms may not look the best on everybody but no one can judge each other because we all look the same.…

Public schools across the United States have been dealing with the issue of dress codes. As of 2008, twenty-two U.S. states specifically authorized schools to institute dress codes or uniform policies (8). School boards may generally create and enforce dress code, but they must do so without violating students’ constitutional law (9). Schools are finding difficulty in enforcing their dress code among students. Parents feel as if the schools dress codes are condoning their students for expressing themselves and say that it is unconstitutional and wrong. Parents, students, and administrators all have the idea of uniforms in the back of their mind but, they will have to give up things to have them. Though a dress code for high schools students is appropriate, uniforms would be a better option.…

Have you ever attended a school where school uniforms were mandatory? The answer is probably yes, as during the 2013-2014 school year, one-fifth of public schools in the United States had to do so. As for me, from Kindergarten until 5th grade I had to wear a school uniform. But once 6th grade rolled around and I changed schools, uniforms were not enforced. I’ve seen both sides to this story, and believe that school uniforms are a controversial subject which can be easily contrasted. Some may think that school uniforms can help students succeed, while others think that they don’t alter the success of a student at all.
