Unintended Consequences in the Bible With every sin comes a consequence, whether the sin is intended or not. There are many different examples of consequences linked with sin. For example, the story of Adam and Eve is very well heard of. It shows perfect examples of unintended consequences because of sin. Another good example would be the story of Moses and Golden Calf. In both stories, there are consequences from God because they disobeyed him. First, the story of Adam and Eve is a great example of unintended consequences. In the story, Eve is tempted to eat from the forbidden tree. Eve gives in and then Adam gives in to temptation as well, and they both eat from it. This leads to God becoming angry. God then punished Adam and Eve and all their descendants. God made life harder in different ways. Women would now feel extreme pain during child birth. Men would have to work and sweat. It is very hard not to fall into temptations. Temptations are everywhere; these include lust, lying, and cheating. Adam and Eve were given specific instructions not to eat the fruit, but they disobeyed. They fell to temptation. This not only affected them, but all of their children, grandchildren, and so forth. Next, Moses and the Golden Calf is a good story and lesson that shows sin and direct consequences. In this story, Moses is summoned to the top of the mountain. When he did not return quickly, the Israelites gathered around Aaron and said, “Come, make us gods that will go before us.” (Exodus 32:1) Then, Aaron took the gold from them and cast the golden calf. They had a festival for the Lord Where they worshipped and sacrificed. Then they began to eat, drink, and indulge themselves in revelry. God then told Moses to go back because his people were becoming corrupt. God was going to destroy them all but Moses talked him out of it. The Lord said, “Whoever has sinned against me I will blot out of my book. Now go lead the people to the place I spoke of, and my angel will go before you. However, when the time comes for me to punish, I will punish them for their sin.” (Exodus 32:33-34) Then God cast a plague on all the people for what they had done. In the story of Moses and the golden calf, sin leads to unintended consequence. The Israelites sinned differently than Adam and Eve, but none of them obeyed God. They made and idolized a golden calf and indulged themselves in revelry. They angered God and he punished them. Everything that is said or done has a consequence. The consequence can be good or bad. Usually, people have to pay for what they have done with bad consequences. There are many places and examples in the old testament that show consequences. Adam and eve, for example, sinned and not only had consequences for themselves, but for their descendants too. The isrealities had consequences for building and worshipping an idol in the shape of a calf. Then they had a festival for the Lord, where they began to eat, drink, and indulge themselves in revelry. God sent a curse on them. All sins have consequences. It is easy to fall into temptations just like Adam, Eve, and the Israelites. Falling into temptations however, leads to sin, which leads to direct consequences.
