For the purpose of this assignment I have observed a child in my setting. Ethical Guidelines have been met and all names have been changed.
Part I
In this assignment I have focused on James’s development in the area of Communication and Language. James is 14 months old and both of his parents are English speaking. The observations I made can be found as an appendix. I have made exclusively spontaneous observations, as it is James’s first week with us.
According to James’s mother he physically developed well. He was sitting up at 4 months, crawling at 7 months and walking at 10 months, but she was concerned about his communication as he did not seem to enjoy babbling …show more content…
The book outlines the main schemas and shows how we can support children’s learning through supporting their interests. It also outlines the combinations of different schemas we might encounter in our observations and how we can combine the different suggested play ideas. I find this book essential to our work as we often refer to the different schemas of our key children. I think it is a great basis for planning and allows us to talk to children about their interests in for instance straight lines, talking about how cars and bikes move in straight lines and how objects fall down when pushed off the table.
Part IV
In this assignment I found it difficult to organise my thoughts and structure the assignment. I enjoyed spending some time looking at one child’s learning in one particular area, as we normally often do not get the time to do this in detail.
