Unit 1 Assignment 1: Integrated Circuit Technology

Based on the reading from Moore’s Law; the number of transistors and integrated circuits double every two years.
Starting in 1971 to the present day; transistor number double or even tripled over the years. So I believe the transistor and integrated circuit technology growth is surprising fast due to how evolved technology is becoming.
From transistors and integrated circuits doubling every two years, It could be 5-15 years before it could reach 100 billion, or even one trillion transistors on a single chip.

Over the years, the growth in the count of transistors on a single chip appears reasonable. Although the growth appears to be surprising fast, it is safe to say that every new chip made has about double the amount of transistors as the previous one. I believe we can expect to have chips that have 100 billion transistors on them within the next five years. Within ten years, I expect we will be seeing chips with over a trillion transistors on them.…

Throughout the years prices of computers have dropped and the memory in the computers has gotten substantially higher. Moore’s Law tells us that the number of processors doubles every two years. Well this is causing technology or computers in this case to basically double as well. In 1957 a 0.00098 KB RAM cost $392. This is unbelievable to me considering today my phone has two-billion times the RAM. In 1955 the amount of ROM on an IBM hard-drive was 12 MB and cost a whopping $74800 or the price of a decent house today. This price was at $6233 per MB. In today’s world we forget sometimes that there were even computers with MB hard drives.…

From 1971 to 2012 the Intel processor transistor count has increased extremely throughout the years developing processor that meets modern pc needs. The growth in the number of transistors used in integrated circuits over the years is reasonable because, of Moore’s Law which predicted that every one year and a half to two years the capacity of the processors would double and, as we can see it is true. The growth on the transistors look surprisingly fast but at the same it is common because technology is used more than ever and to meet the needs of today’s society so reflecting on it is appropriate to say that it is growing at a normal rate. If I had to figure out when 100 billion transistors would fit on one single chip and using the of Moore’s law I would predict that it be around from 2018 to 2020.…

I think Intel cofounder Gordon Moore’s prediction known as “Moore’s Law” will prove to be true. It states that the number of transistors on a chip will double approximately every two years. The announcement of the historic Intel 22nm 3-D Tri-Gate transistor technology assures us that the promise of Moore’s Law will continued to be fulfilled.…
