ASSIGNMENT 1-COMPARATIVE ANALYSIS
DUE DATE: MARCH 9, 2015 @ BEGINNING OF CLASS
Complete a comparative analysis of the FIVE (5) theories, Systems Theory, Structural Functionalism, Conflict Theory, Ecosystems Theory, and the Feminist Perspective (Chapter 1 of van Wormer Text), utilizing the book, The Hunger Games, to provide examples of each theory. In this analysis, you will compare and contrast the theories as well as demonstrate your understanding of the theories by describing possible symbolism of the theories in the book, The Hunger Games. An “A” paper will demonstrate the student’s understanding of each theory as well as his/her ability to apply these theories to different settings, be grammatically correct, insightful,
and creative by use of examples from the book.
The paper should be written in APA format, including a Title Page and a Reference Page. No late papers will be accepted and no papers will be accepted at the end of class on March 9, 2015. In the reference page, list at least your van Wormer text and The Hunger Games. You may use additional resources, but web search engines such as ask.com or Wikipedia are not acceptable. If you have any doubt about a particular reference, I strongly suggest that you ask me prior to using it as a reference.
Do not wait until the “last minute” to begin reading this book or only attempt to view the movie version in the hopes of completing this assignment adequately. Again an “A” paper will include examples of the theories that are exhibited throughout the book. The movie is a good representation of the book, but lacks many of the details that one would use to demonstrate an “A” understanding of these 5 theories. Finally, in class we will be discussing The Hunger Games throughout the lectures of the 5 theories and you will be required to participate in the class discussion.
This assignment is worth 50 points.
