Unit 23 Aim Objectives -
The aim of this unit is to ensure learners know the impact Human Computer Interaction (HCI) has on society, economy and culture provides the basic skills and understanding required to enable learners to design and implement human computer interfaces.

You are working in a temporary position for the local council as a junior software designer. You have been given an assignment in the education department to work on a project for the local nurseries, schools and colleges. You have been told if this project is a success, you will be offered permanent employment and, depending on the quality of the outcome, promotion might also be possible.

The council is eager to provide pupils and learners in all their schools/colleges, at any age, a range of methods by which to learn and be assessed. However you will need to enlighten managers in the council that your proposals and designs will benefit the end users, based on sound research and simple, easy-to-use products. This provides you with lots of scope for creativity and enables you to demonstrate your abilities in your quest to show how indispensable you are. You are reminded that, as you are the expert, you will need to indicate some of the principles applied and how the specialist needs are met.

Council managers have formed a review group with representative tutors from the local nursery, primary and secondary schools and colleges. Although very keen on your project, some of the tutors are unsure of how their learners will benefit from it.

Your starting point on this project is to identify the age range for you designs in the order to choose the most appropriate devices for HCI development.

Make sure that you have described an impact of HCI in your own words. Be creative in the why you present your findings. Leaflets or media outputs (such as webpages or prezi’s) might be useful
Be really imaginative when thinking of a potential future development. It could be something that doesn’t exist at all at the moment, rather than just developing something current.

1. Describe one impact of HCI in recent years on each of society, the economy and culture.
2. Explain how modern advances in HCI design have contributed to the impact of computers on society, the economy and culture. (Be creative in the way in which you present your explanations e.g. Powtoon, Prezi or another creative platform)

1. Evaluate the HCI developments over recent years, relating them to the impact on society, the economy and culture and offer a prediction for potential future development and what impact it may have. This will be done in a written evaluation.
