a What is reflective practice? b Why is reflective practice important? c How reflective practice contributes to improving the quality of service provision. d How standards can be used to help a social care worker reflect on their practice.

Aii You arrange a mentor meeting to feed back to the social care worker. You have comments to make which include both praise and constructive criticism.

Write notes to prepare for your meeting. In your notes, explain:

a Why it is important for a social care worker to seek feedback on performance. b The different ways that people may react to receiving constructive feedback. c Why it is important for a social care worker to use the feedback to improve their practice.

Task B Personal development plan (PDP)

Bi Design a template for a personal development plan (PDP) that you could use to improve your learning, development and professional practice. For each heading in the template, provide a brief summary describing what should be included.

Bii Explain how a PDP can help a social care worker identify improvements in their knowledge, understanding and practice.

PDP can help by setting targets to reach to maintain and improve your standard of practice. Also helps ensure you keep up to date with all training, any changes to care plans, risk assessments etc and bring to light any issues outstanding.

Biii Identify sources of support for planning and reviewing your development.

Sources of support for planning and reviewing your development could be staff you work with, senior staff and management. Even asking residents advice where applicable may help. Using supervisions and appraisals is an ideal time.

Biv Identify people who can help you develop your knowledge, understanding and practice.

People who can help me develop my knowledge, understanding and practice would be staff I work alongside, senior staff and management, trainers for courses, professionals such as physio’s and speech and language therapists as well as the residents and their families and friends.

Bv Explain how the people identified above can help you appreciate your strengths and areas for development.

They can give me feedback including what they think I do well as well as what I could improve on and how. They can give me information on how to improve practice such as training and information regarding residents

Task C Reflecting on learning experiences

Ci Describe how your own values, beliefs and personal experiences might affect your working practice.
My own values, beliefs and personal experiences might affect my working practice either positively or negatively. Positively by being able to use past experiences to better my practice and may help dealing with present situations. My values and beliefs may prevent me working in a way which is best for the resident, therefore these should not interfere whilst providing care, should go by residents values and beliefs to make practice person centered and not about me.
