Unit 4 – Principles of safeguarding and protection in health and social care

The numbers after each question relate to the assessment criteria in the standards
1. Define the following types of abuse: (1.1.1)
a. physical abuse- Physical force result body injury, pain or impairment.
b. sexual abuse- Direct or indirect sexual activity to a person who hasn’t given consent.
c. emotional/psychological abuse- A action by someone else that could affect a person mental wellbeing or i.e bulling,swearing treats or huimiliation what can resukt in mental or physical distress.
d. financial abuse- A theft or misuse by a person or personal to aduantage of another person.
e. institutional abuse- Abuse or mistreated by an person institution that occurs when the routines of an override the needs of people who need support.
f. self-neglect – A person who is failing to look after them self i.e not eating, not washing, not wearing clean clothes . This could be because of mental or physical health issuses.
g. neglect by others- This is a failure to meet a person care needs by another person.

2. Identify the signs and/or symptoms associated with each type of abuse (1.1.2)
Physical- Bruising that’s odd shaped, burns, marks on the skins, broken bones, unexplained falls.
Sexual- Anxiety, fear of contact, bleeding, infection in genital area, burusing,bits , crying unexplained, withdrawal, torn clothes, self harming and neglet.
Emotial/physical- Change in sleep patten , nightmares, seeking behaviour, self isolation, loss or gain wieight, sadness, crying depression, low self esteem lack of self confidence.
Financial- Unexplained bills to pay, over spending money not explain, no food in house, big withdrawals from the account, money missing, pressure to change the will.
Institutianal- rigid rountines, lack of choice, cultural need religious needs not met, restrict to food,drink , having baths.
Self neglect- Personal hygiene, not taking care of
