Table 2: Details on an IT Project
The resource allocation for each activity for each week and the total weekly resource assignments are show in Figure 1, which is a Gantt chart along with a histogram. Now, examine Figure 1 closely. Using the concept of resource leveling, determine the flaws in this resource schedule, write down the disadvantages of such resource loading and develop a more leveled schedule. This forms your Exercise 2 for this week.

The flaw of resource loading is based on the earliest start time. The slack activities are not included but it does create a skewed resource level. In the above graph it shows a histogram and the skewed is towards the left side. This leveling cause obstacle for the project costing and mapping, because the number of employees was reaching up to
34
in week 1 and 2.
The
disadvantages will be employees will not know their position and the resources will not be used logical.
If
all
34
employees stay the whole entire days the cost will be extra, it will lead to dissatisfaction from boss or other employees and low quality Resource Leveling Exercise
Given below is the information about the IT project we discussed in our Lesson 5 commentary under
Resource Leveling. Also given below is the current resource loading Gantt chart along with a histogram.
Now, have a close look at figures given below and using the concept of resource leveling, determine the flaws in this resource schedule, write down the disadvantages of such resource loading, and develop a more leveled schedule. For your ready reference, an Excel sheet (ResourceLevelingExercise.xls) is provided to complete this exercise.

The critical path is: C,

Critical path should create the base of the Gantt chart. C,

(numbers

A,

D,
E, and G
B

E
can be push back by
4
weeks so it won’t touch the critical path. B and E will start on the third week.
A
required

A
can be change with the other activity.
A
and
H
will be change because they only required less recourses then the other activities.
