Unit 4222 – 303 Promote Quality and Inclusion in Health, Social Care or Children’s and Young People’s Settings.
Outcome 1. Understand the importance of diversity, equality and inclusion.
Diversity- Diversity can be defined (in a care environment) as a broad selection of people from different backgrounds, with different ideas, religion, culture, sexual orientation, ages, disabilities, ethnicity, gender and general beliefs.
Equality- Where individuals in society are treated the same with the same opportunities as each other, given the same chances and human rights as everyone else in society regardless of backgrounds mentioned above (Diversity).
Inclusion- Inclusion determines the Equal opportunities of all individuals, and enforces the methods to do so.
2. Describe the potential effects of discrimination.
There are many forms of discrimination. From a workers perspective this could be not given the same job/conditions opportunities as other workers. As a client in a care background, not being given the care they should be entitled to. Also not being given respect for a persons backgrounds, beliefs, ethnicity and needs. This can lead to alienation/segregation, personal growth and in some cases depression and general ill health, due to not having respect of a person’s background/lifestyle.

3. Explain how inclusive practice promotes equality and supports diversity.
In my work role I read through a client’s personal assessment and identify their needs before my first meeting with a client. Then I would discuss the client’s needs face to face and assess how I can best work with the client to encompass all the clients’ diverse needs promoting equality, this also included if ‘I’ am best suited for the clients needs.
An example of this in my own work background- I once visited a retired Asian gentleman who came from a Hindu background, who lived in a predominantly Muslim care home. The gentleman was alienated due to his religion and he spoke a
