Becoming a politician isn’t an easy task, throughout the course you will deal with many different challenges. Being fresh out of college makes it very difficult to get a job, but Michael McCaul didn’t give up and he eventually got a job as a federal prosecutor. Being a federal prosecutor allowed Mr. McCaul to gain access to the political world. A politician has to be very good at public speaking and very good at changing people’s opinions. Due to the fact that Trinity University is a D3 school the students get a very hands on learning experience, and have to do presentations and talk about what they learned in front of a bigger group than they are use to. In one of Michael Mccaul’s first speeches he said “Our farmers and ranchers have never faced as many problems as they do today with drought, range fires, high gas prices and an ever tightening budget on agriculture subsidies.” (2015). People who owed gas stations disagreed with his statement, and it made them very upset. That was when Mr. McCaul realized you have to get very use to people disagreeing with you, one major challenge he had to overcome. Mr. McCaul is very open about his political views, much as a politician has to be, but Michael McCaul had to learn to accept this and over come it. One of Michael McCaul’s main movements has been to help find a cure for childhood cancer.
Soon after he realized how many kids have to deal with cancer he said “in too many cases, the moms, the dads… of children with cancer must stand by a hospital bed and watch helplessly as this horrible disease consumes the life of an innocent child” (2016). Seeing his kids and then visiting other kids going through so much at such a young age has really touched him. Many scientists believed that there wasn’t a true cure to cancer, but Michael McCaul wouldn’t take that as an answer. He had to overcome this challenge and convince people, using his public speaking skills, that we could never stop fighting this disease. Not only is Michael McCaul a great politician with a sensitive side, he also is the richest politicians in Texas. Michael McCaul’s net worth is $305.46 million. Though years of being a politician, once an attorney after college, and having to watch his money through college to make sure he could pay for college has all helped him plan his finances right. One valuable life lesson he learned is you have to have balance in your time, and bank
account. What Michael McCaul learned from college has helped him time after time in life. From balancing family and work, finding tricky solutions to problems, and planning finances right, were all somewhat learned through Trinity University.
