1.3 Explain what a risk assessment is and how it is managed in the work setting
A risk assessment is "A risk assessment is simply a careful examination of what, in your work, could cause harm to people, so that you can weigh up whether you have taken enough precautions or should do more to prevent harm." according to the Health and Safety Executive's website. My understanding of it is that a risk assessment is a way of checking how likely a place, item or activity, in the case of working in a nursery, is to cuase harm to someone or to be a source of danger and how best to prevent it from happening.

The nursery carries out a risk assessment covering all areas of the building every day as the rooms are set up and before any children arrive and it is recorded on a daily risk assessment sheet. Activities are irsk assessed such taking the children for a walk in the local area, a visit to the library or activities outside in the garden.
