United States Navy Seals and Beowulf

Beowulf vs. A Navy Seal There are several characteristics that make up a hero. A hero can be strong, brave, determined, or a great leader. Beowulf and a Navy Seal possess these characteristics. Both are brave leaders who put themselves in harm’s way to protect the people that they represent. Both are warriors who are strong willed and determined to fight an enemy that threaten the security of others. Although they are much the same, there are several differences that makes the Navy Seal the most heroic out of the two. A United States service member is a brave individual. They enlist in service to protect the freedom of the citizens of this country. The Navy Seals are an elite group of these service members that are called upon to perform dangerous missions all over the world. Not only do they fight in wars, like other service members, but they are also called upon to go behind enemy lines for rescue missions and other dangerous operations. For example, in 2011, the Navy Seals bravely went into Pakistan and killed Osama bin Laden at his compound. The Navy Seals did not know exactly what they were going to endure when they got there. It takes skill and bravery to perform a mission like this one. Like the Navy Seal, Beowulf, who heard about Grendel and his terror, “vows revenge” (Beowulf 30), for what Grendel has done to the people of Herot. Beowulf, who has never seen Grendel, and did not know what to expect, fights and ultimately kills the evil Grendel and is hailed as a hero. He put his own life in danger to destroy the evil that was plaguing the people. The Navy Seal seeks no fortune or fame for his missions. They are trained to perform the most dangerous missions in the world. When they accomplish their mission, they are never put on an individual pedestal. They are never named in the news except for the title “Navy Seals”. No one knows who these individuals are or even where they are from. When they do seek fame for their
