A total of 227 patients presenting with type II DM and ≥ 5 years of duration of DM at medicine ward, Civil Hospital Karachi were enrolled in this study.
Characteristics:
The mean age of patients was 48.26±9.01years (Table 1) and percentage distribution of age of patients is shown (Table 2). Percentage distribution of gender in overall study population, males were 101 (44.5%) and females were 126 (55.5%) shown in (Table 3). The mean weight of patients was 457.29±7.56 kg, with 95% CI (56.30; 58.28) of mean weight (Table 4)

Comparison of frequency of restrictive lung disease between duration of DM groups (years), in (5 - 10) year’s group were 24(60.0%), in (11 - 20) years group was 16(40.0%) and in (> 30 Years) years group was 0 (0.0%). This comparison found not statistically significant (Chi square test statistic = 5.93; P- value = 0.051) (table 17).
Comparison of frequency distribution of restrictive lung disease between Glycemic control groups, in controlled DM patients restrictive lung function was 14(35.0%) and in uncontrolled DM patients restrictive lung function was 26(65.0%), found not statistically significant (Chi square test statistic = 0.051; P- value = 0 .821) (table 18).
