Universal Life: A Brief Summary
This article explains that for people who had purchased life insurance in the 1980s, the low interest rates have led to an increase in premiums. The article is based off of a man, Nicholas Vertullo purchased “a $238,000 life-insurance policy, and later bought three more policies, pushing the death benefit to about $500,000” (Scism). The insurance that Vertullo has, Universal Life, works when the buyer deposits money into it’s policy, then expenses are deducted, including the death benefit, and whatever is left stays in the policy continuously earning interest for future costs. Most people don’t have an answer to the question of what they are to do if their main source of income were to suddenly die, or suffer from a traumatic, sudden physical ailment. Most people wouldn’t be able to sustain their current lifestyle, keep the lights on in their home or even keep it, let alone afford a college education for their children. Life insurance provides a failsafe for dependents by giving them a set amount of money upon the dependent’s death or sudden physical ailment for a number of things. For example, the money can be used to keep the dependent’s…

Initially it was stated that a family of four would see a cut in their premiums by up to $2,500 a year. However, that it not what has happened. The author reports that according to the Kaiser figures, in “2011 premiums increased by 9% in 2011. In 2012, the numbers showed a 5% decrease and in 2013 there was a 4% decrease” indicating that changes are being made at a much slower pace than expected. Experts observing the newly reformed policy believe that the reason for the premiums not decreasing as quickly as originally thought is due to the slow recovery of the economy. This article gives further credence to the above-stated article regarding the price of insurance premiums under…

Rachel Naomi Remen's perception on serving, helping and fixing are understandable but I can't say that I agree with her sentiments. What I agree with most is when she says "When I fix a person I perceive them as broken." I think naturally when someone explains to you that they have fixed something, they assume you have fixed something that was broken or not quite right since it needed repair. I do not however always agree that when you fix something or someone you are judging. When you have people who have needed fixing themselves and then when they are "whole" have the opportunity to "fix" someone else, a lot of people find it humbling and are grateful for the opportunity to pay it forward. I personally do not like the word "fix". I feel that to say someone needed to be "fixed" or more so that YOU "fixed" them is showing a great deal of impertinence.…

Who can really play the “game” of life? In the novel The Catcher in the Rye by J.D. Salinger, the main character, Holden Caulfield, states, “Game, my ass. Some game. If you get on the side where all the hot-shots are, then it’s a game, all right―I’ll admit that. But if you get on the other side, where there aren’t any hot-shots, then what’s a game about it? Nothing. No game” (8). This statement is true because it is the people who have success, fame, and fortune that can play the “game” of life and win in it. So why can only these people play the “game” of life?…

The power to have all the positive and good things in life is love. When you love you are using the greatest power in the universe. Love is not weak, feeble, or soft. Love is the positive force of life! Love is the cause of everything positive and good. The positive force of love can create anything good, increase the good things, and change anything negative in your life. Every single time you experienced something good in your life, you loved and harnessed love's positive force. And every single time you experienced something not good, you didn't love, and the result was negativity. Love is the cause of all the good things in your life, and a lack of love is the cause of all the negative things and all the pain and suffering. I am a mother of two wonderful sons. Unfortunately, my youngest son passed away July 2012. Then two months later my step dad passed away and I miss them both so much. Coming up on a year after losing my son is tough, but I am trying to stay strong for my other son. My family is one of the reasons why I feel motivated to further my education. I have been so excited to get back in school after seven years and I have been really motivated. For a moment I was at a standstill, but that was because I decided to procrastinate. After not passing the FCAT math I did not receive my diploma even though I have all my credits so I had to go back and get my GED. I ended up taking the GED twice. The first time I passed all parts except math and the second time I only had to take math in which I passed and exceeded the score I needed to pass. My son is now at the tender age of five and I feel as though I need to not just advise him to go to college, but as his mom set an example. He will be starting first grade in August and he is so smart. I am a full time single mom, I work full time and I am in school full time. I enjoy watching basketball, football and reading a good book. I am currently employed with the State of Florida Department of Health Central Office Children’s Medical Services. I have been an employee here for 6 and half years now and although I love what I do, I would like to further my education to one day become a teacher. I credential providers all over the state of Florida (ARNP’s/PA’s, SLP (all types), OT (all types), etc., I enjoy reading books, playing sports, spending time with my son, family and friends. My goal is to obtain my Associate of Arts degree with a concentration in Elementary Education and to one day become a great teacher. I love children and to see my son go through the different stages of learning and how teachers make a big impact on children lives they have inspired…
