Unjust Steward: A Summary Analysis
As a group, we had a very difficult parable, however, with research, help from others, and critical thinking as a team, we were able to analyze it very well. A great parable should consist of things like a life lesson, paradox, something that represents our Kingdom of God, our relationship with God/others, and overall something that can teach us a valuable lesson that we can apply to our everyday lives and help us in the future of our lives. These elements make a parable great because without them there would be no lesson we learn from and it wouldn't affect us any. The parable I had was The Unjust Steward, it had some good valuable lessons to learn from, however, it was a bit of a challenge to understand when reading it for the first time. …show more content…
The Unjust Steward had a pretty obvious paradox, which all great parables must have. In ours, it was the master of the store praising his manager for being dishonest. Right away this begins to build up suspense and gets our audience thinking. Without the paradox that was in my parable there would really be no lesson that God was showing us. The whole point of it was to show us that we need to know how to take care of ourselves and God will always let us into his Kingdom if we at one point in our life know what is right. I also think that this parable was great because it shows us a bit of our relationship with God and others. We see that when you give to someone and are kind to them, you will be rewarded back, and in this case, it was being able to have a home. In a great parable there also must be a way you can apply it to your everyday life and now I’ll tell you how we can do that. In the Unjust Steward, the manager who lost his job he got back up on his feet and did whatever he could that would help satisfy his necessity in life which was a house. So, that gives us the message that the decisions we chose to make are always in our hands and if we ever get into a bad situation in life we need to do what we can to make things right. For example, if you get a bad mark on a test, don’t give up, study hard and work on how you can improve for the next test. All in all, this is why I think …show more content…
I acknowledged that you should never give up, whenever you are in a bad situation never let it get worse. Just like what the manager did in the parable you must know what’s right and take care of yourself. As we all know that’s what the manager was getting praised for. So, in our own everyday lives, we have to take a look at the bigger picture and realize that at the end of the day the important thing in life is our afterlife with God in heaven and not the money. We cannot serve both money and God. Even though for some people who think money is the more important thing right now they will realize eventually money will only help you short term, but will not benefit you later in life when you want to be with God. If you have money, be wise, share the wealth, and help others who then can later return a favour for you in the future. Do not be greedy or selfish, money without friends and family means nothing and will get you nowhere. At the end, we also learn that even at the end of our life, if we know what is right God will allow us in his home, The Kingdom of God/Heaven, which is our ultimate goal to be in as humans. Being able to know what is right for yourself is very important in this

In every literary piece an individual reads, may It be short story or novel, there are bound to be some type of literary device, may it be just one main one the author focuses their attention to add a specific tone to their piece as a well as make that literary piece distinguishable, or multiple devices to maintain variety and unpredictability. Without at least decent use of literary device, the reader’s eyes will begin to stray as they are trying to maintain attention with that specific piece. There are no comparisons to show to a reader what the author perceives an object or living thing means to them and without any devices, the goal of drawing the reader out of their world and into the author’s ultimately fails at grabbing the reader’s attention because there was nothing in the story effective enough at evoking the targeted emotion the author was trying to do from the very start. A short story that does a great job at successfully drawing the reader away from their world and into the authors is The Ministers Black Veil by Nathaniel Hawthorne. This Story has a variety of literary device, but as to what stands it, it is symbolism. Symbolism is the author’s way of showing readers the significance of an object to them and what they truly represent in their hearts. The story has major emphasis on the idea that the veil the protagonist (Parson Hooper) of the story wears is actually a “barrier” that masks the sin committed by Hooper done sometime before the start of the story and a “mirror” that reflects the true sinful nature of human beings back into the eyes who gazed at the veil as evident by the townspeople’s reactions to the veil when Hooper walked into the church with it -possibly in the form of a horrendous creature that looks resembles them, but with demonic facial features if you think about it-. When everyone in the church reacted so…

In a previous writing we looked at what it means to repent. Repentance was one of Jesus' chief messages spanning his entire ministry. Repentance was also an integral part of John's and the Church's message to the world. But what can we learn from Jesus about repentance by his teaching of the parable of the unjust steward, Luke 16:1-13?…

It shows how human nature is to critique and judge people. How people don't realize that they are doing something wrong and never take time to understand what they have done wrong and how criticizing people won't help them at all. Nathaniel Hawthorne's used the minister to show how society are hypocrites. They judge and judge the minister day over day but never took the time to ask him why he was wearing a veil. They criticizing him and judge and said that he was changing too, but in reality there were the ones changing their point of view on him. The Minister's society was also doing things wrong like lying and criticizing but they didn't care about what they did, they only cared about what others did, about what the minister did. They were hypocrite and selfish and never found out that the point the minister was trying to get across was proven by the society. People are hypocrite and some can't just accept that they care more about other's business than…

For example, when Johnny and Pony were brought back to the church by Dallas and they saw the church was on fire, so they ran up there and saved the children and people inside. The author demonstrates real life situations with her writing as she did with the fire. Another example is when the groups had the rumble. If one guy was getting beat up really badly they would go and help fight back, both groups did this. This shows readers that you should have each others backs when they are in dire need.…

What is an allegory some might ask? An allegory is a story with figurative meaning or one that has two meanings. Throughout the novel, Lord of the Flies, examples of allegory are evident through the characters. In the beginning of the novel, a group of British boys are deserted after a plane crash on a paradise like island, one which is seemingly similar to the Garden of Eden. With no help from an adult or parental figure, the boys learn for themselves, order is necessary to survive. However, because of their own imperfections and inability to control their savagery, they lose their creation of a society. They do not listen to Christ-figure Simon, who tries to warn them about their destructiveness and the truth. Instead, they murder Simon that…

Another author named Amy-Jill Levine wrote a book on the parables of Jesus. Her view points are quite interesting because she explains not only what a parable is, but then goes into farther detail of the parables. One interesting remark was that parables “are often seen as the hallmark of Jesus’ teaching (Levine).” This remark relates to Gowler’s remark in the previous paragraphs. Parables are important because they are what we have of Jesus’ teachings, because they have been persevered.…

In the story “A Good Man Is Hard To Find,” I particularly liked the opening quote, “The dragon is by the side of the road, watching those who pass. Beware lest he devour you. We go to the Father of Souls, but it is necessary to pass by the dragon.” This quote, when I first read it, didn’t have as much impact until after I had finished the story. I felt it made me go back and re-read both the quote and the story. In doing so, I got more from it.…

“The Story of an Hour” often uses imagery to achieve its tone. For example, “There was a feverish triumph in her eyes, and she carried herself unwittingly like a goddess of Victory.” This use of imagery appeals to the senses, causing it to be so effective in achieving the tone of happiness. “The Revolt of Mother” uses strong diction and similes. For example, the words “disaster, afflicted, and broken” are used to…

Imagine waking in jail cell. What did you do? That’s right, you were walking on white streets after 6:30 pm without a pass. You got questioned, beaten, and thrown in here. As you look around, you begin to notice the other inmates. They are black, just like you. This was the reality from 1948 to 1994, during the Apartheid law. Black people were being discriminated against financially, emotionally, and mentally. Apartheid was a way for whites to gain more power and more control over the black population.…
