Unna Monologue
The Children of Destiny

The streets of the dingy, smog-filled city city were quiet, so silent, one could hear a pindrop from several feet away. Soot clung to the city air, and seemingally to the buildings themselves, which, along with the darkness of the night, left the city in pitch darkness, with the glow of the streetlamps failing to penetrate the thick, smoggy cloak that had been cast over the capital city of Hila. No one was about; only the occasional army patrol or bandit broke the silence. It was a normal night in the capital city of Hila, until a lithe figure burst out of a tavern in the middle of the dingy city. As it emerged, it stopped for a brief moment, it's head looking left, then right, then up and down at it's surroundings.

The woman had platimuim blonde hair and brown eyes, with her hair drawn back in a bun simliar to Natalia's. The man had short-cropped jet-black hair, and black beady eyes that were barely visible in the smogy light.
"Do you have her?" Sara asked.
"Yes," Natalia responded in a whisper. She moved her arms to reveal a small bundle that was bound tightly to her chest. Ikana and Sara both peered over at the newborn cradled within. The newborn couldn't be more than a few months old and she was fast asleep, curled up in the blankets bound to Natalia, with a tuft of brown hair visible on her tiny head. The baby seemed to become aware she was being watched; her eyes opened, and she began to cry. Sara stroked the baby across the forehead tenderly, cooeing a soft lullaby to the small child.
"She first fell asleep near the city square," Natalia whispered to her two compatriots. "What about you? Do you have her twin brother?"
"Yes," Ikana replied, copying Natalia, and revealing a newborn infant in his arms as well. Ikana's charge was fast asleep, not a day older than his twin sister, with the only visible difference was that Ikana's charge had a small tuft of jet black hair instead of

"You weren't supposed to be detected."
"Even the best of us can make mistakes Ikana, you should do well to remember that. Sara, you are amazing." Sara had somehow, through her lullaby, had lulled the newborn in Natalia's arms back to sleep. Sara grinned, unable to conceal her elation at finally eliciting a compliment from the otherwise stern Natalia.
"Let's move out," Natalia said. "We still have to arrive at our destination." The small group split up and began to move, with the same caution as Natalia had used, but at a slower pace, with Natalia, Ikana, and Sara each taking a different route to their next destination. They joined up again when they reached the Upper Neighborhood, which was free from the dingy soot that covered most of the city. The dwellings had also changed as well. Instead of ramshackle, single-story brick and wooden houses, there were two, and even three story brick homes, decorated very finely with ornate shrubs and paint. The group moved at a slower pace, still keeping to the darkness.
"But what about....you know," Sara said, breaking the silence. "The......the Roann Region? Are the rumors true?" Natalia nodded slowly, confirming Sara's worst fears.

This allows Anna to develop more confidence in her knowledge and become a stronger, more assertive woman. When Elinor calls for Anna's help to deliver Mary Daniel's child, she is at first hesitant to assist because her own mother died during childbirth when she was just four years old. Elinor insists, however, telling Anna that "You know a very great deal more than you think you do" and eventually, Anna gives in and prepares to deliver the baby, recalling memories from her own first confinement to help her. Anna tries not to think about the fact that she is about to "invade the body of a living woman", however she quickly overcomes this thought, and tries to "...quiet that part of my mind hammering away about modesty and violation." Although she is unsure of what she is doing, she acts as though she does, as she thinks it important that Mary sees her acting confidently. Once her hands were inside of Mary, however, it seemed as though her flesh "felt as familiar" to her as her own and Anna has little difficulty in helping her deliver the baby. Afterwards, they laughed and "for an hour, in that season of death," they celebrated a life. This particular event sees Anna developing a part of her that is confident and sure of her own knowledge and skills. Due to her experiences in birthing livestock, Anna is already equipped with the skills necessary to assist in childbirth but there exists a different part of her inside that is naturally gifted in midwifery and it is this part that truly allows her to shine and take control of what she can do thus leading her to discover her natural confidence and…
