Intro: “Unnatural Causes: In Sickness and in Wealth” is a 2008 film by Larry Adelman about the underlying factors in one’s life that can help explain why someone might get sick.
Purpose: The purpose of the film is to help us as individuals understand that there are many factors that are related as to why we might get sick or can harm one’s well being based on our race and on stratification.
Message: The message of the film is that social conditions can have an impact on our health. It does not solely depend if there is access healthcare. It can be hard for some to obtain a job that can allow them the chance to have healthcare coverage so at times it is something that is just not a priority.
Viewer worldview: The viewer’s world view is expanded. The film gives many examples of how different people of different class or rank live and how they are exposed to factors that can impact one’s health. It also shows how different classes or ranks have different access to healthcare or no healthcare.
Context: From the film I came to the conclusion, based on the test that was done by doctors, that if one has more education and thus more wealth they are less likely to be stressed and have a better immune system that will protect them against harmful illnesses.
Conclusion: I believe that if it is your time to die then it is going to happen. It does not matter how often you saw a doctor or if you have access to medication. Access to healthcare will diagnose the problem but it does not mean that the problems will be solved. For example: a wealthy person develops a terminal cancer, it doesn’t matter how many times they see a doctor, and they’re still going to die. Yes, seeing the doctor will help prolong death but at the end if you are going to die it’s going to
