American dream. Yet there is one issue that will quickly destroy any unit. Unprofessional relationships within the unit will have a negative impact on mission outcome. Instructors are also being pulled away from their primary course they teach to backfill where instructors have been pulled from instructor duties.
These incidents also portray a bad image to other units around the base. Between long hours at work and a bad image around base, instructors don’t want to take part in any functions the unit has. This moves us on to the final point of creating an unprofessional atmosphere.
The final point to cover is how this creates an unprofessional atmosphere within the work center. There is supposed to be a separation between an instructor and a student. With unprofessional relationships students believe there is favoritism, and they believe if they say anything they will be punished. This may even prevent a student from asking questions or the perception that a student is receiving higher grades may be from a personal relationship instead of hard work. We have even had crimes covered up that students have committed by instructors they are in a relationship with. The stigma caused by these incidents can be around for many years tarnishing the profession.
